In designing the new model, our greatest rival was its predecessor. The Land Cruiser is defined by its indisputable QDR (Quality, Dependability, Reliability), a legacy inherited from its forebearers. So we went back to its roots, added new values and aimed to create the «ultimate authentic» Land Cruiser. It was challenging to design but I’m proud of the result.

The Land Cruiser was forged by being driven on uncharted roads around the world for the last 70 years. Keeping its predecessors in mind, I imagined a design where a solid block of metal would take shape by being burnished in a harsh environment. Along with a team of Land Cruiser lovers, we relentlessly aimed to express functional beauty that doesn’t follow trends. We’re confident we have succeeded.

I wanted to design the Land Cruiser ever since I was a student and when I was given the responsibility to design the front, which is very important, it was a dream come true. I wanted to create a powerful face with an evolved sense of functional beauty, while keeping with the DNA of its predecessors. It would be a great pleasure to win the hearts of our hardcore fans.

Being able to design a car that would be raced in rallies around the world is a dream come true for a car lover such as myself. I took inspiration from the TOYOTA GAZOO racing rally cars and their dynamic performance, and I think I have managed to create a distinctive design derived from harsh racing conditions. I can’t wait for its debut race in the 2023 Dakar Rally.

My career in design started with the Land Cruiser 80, and I lived with this great car through its different generations. By breathing new life into this Land Cruiser, I wanted the interior to be experienced with all one’s senses: Unshakable safety, reliability, great comfort even under harsh conditions, high quality feel as a flagship SUV, uncompromising operability and passion inherited from our predecessors.

My aim is to make customers happy with what I like. I very much like products with minimalistic designs, and I often experiment with designs that provide the maximum effects with minimum means. The concept of LC300 is to go back to its roots in order to create the «ultimate authentic», so I obsessively strove to create shapes best suited for intuitive operations. I eliminated all needless elements to focus solely on functional beauty. I’m happy with how it looks.

Known as «a vehicle that promises to take you anywhere & everywhere and come back alive and safe», it was exciting and fun to be able to engrave my own ideas into the history of the Land Cruiser that continues to run all over the world. My particular focus was on the white pearl, its symbolic color, and I started its development anew to achieve ultimate whiteness and quality. It would be great for me to see happy customers in this shining white Land Cruiser.
