New Toyota Land Cruiser Teased With Classic FJ62 Design Cues [UPDATE]

Toyota is looking to the past for the design of its Defender rival.

Update: Added seven additional teaser images showing details of the exterior, along with a look at the center console. This is noteworthy, as it shows a toggle for four-wheel-drive modes similar to the Lexus GX, suggesting it will be all-paw all the time.

Toyota is back at it again, building up anticipation for its new Land Cruiser via another teaser with retro leanings. Luckily for us, the latest image of the forthcoming off-roader does away with the silhouettes, giving us a close-cropped look at the front fascia, among other things.

Pictured alongside a Land Cruiser FJ62, it’s clear the new model (likely to arrive for the 2025 model year) will take some inspiration from its 1980s forebear via a rectangular headlight array flanking an egg-crate grille, with “TOYOTA” script taking the place of the oval brand emblem in the center. The front fenders are also delightfully blocky, though the hood wrapping down onto the bodysides is a clearly modern touch.

The chunky front bumper is yet another deviation from the retro theme, but that’s to be expected given modern crash standards. The new Land Cruiser gets a thick, contrast-color center section, and although Toyota didn’t include much of the lower front end, it appears the bumper is placed reasonably high to preserve approach angles. A skid plate can also be seen peeking out from the middle.

The Previous Generation Land Cruiser In Action:

The teaser helps draw some clear distinctions between the Toyota Land Cruiser and Lexus GX. As we saw in the previous teaser, the Land Cruiser’s upkicked beltline and upright windshield are clear indicators that the two will likely share a platform and body structure. But the Toyota’s blockier front end is better suited for its intended audience than the angular headlights and spindle-motif grille found on the Lexus.

For more details, including dimensions and powertrain specifications, we’ll likely have to wait until Toyota reveals the 2025 Land Cruiser in full. But its GX cousin makes use of a twin-turbocharged 3.4-liter V6 making a fine 349 horsepower and an even more impressive 479 lb-ft of torque, with full-time four-wheel drive, a Torsen center differential, and a selectable low range for rock-crawling twist.

На фото запечатлен серьезно доработанный Toyota Land Cruiser FJ62 1989 года, который на днях выставили на продажу в США. Известно, что до июля двадцать первого автомобиль находился в Колумбии, после чего его перегнали в Штаты.

С подачи прежнего владельца машина была перекрашена в насыщенный синий оттенок и получила хромированные бампера с черными вставками по бокам. Ее также поставили на новые 15-дюймовые колеса, «обутые» в 33-дюймовые внедорожные покрышки Dick Cepek Extreme Country.

Салон классического Ленд Крузера был отреставрирован. Его отделали коричневой кожей, а из оснащения здесь стоит отметить камеру заднего вида, кондиционер и электропривод стекол. Также порадовать пассажиров призвано головное устройство Pioneer с сабвуфером JL Audio.

С подачи прежнего владельца внедорожник обзавелся новым двигателем: в движение его отныне приводит 4,5-литровая рядная «шестерка» 1FZ, работающая в связке с пятиступенчатой механикой. Плюс машина имеет двухступенчатую раздатку, которая перенаправляет тягу либо только на задние, либо на все четыре колеса (в зависимости от режима работы).

Из прочих особенностей доработанного Land Cruiser FJ62 стоит отметить модифицированную подвеску, в которой были установлены новые амортизаторы. Пробег данного внедорожника заявлен на уровне 322 000 км, однако сколько из них он отбегал уже после замены мотора — неизвестно.

Так или иначе, автомобиль уже успел обрести нового владельца: в рамках торгов на портале «Bring a Trailer» он ушел с молотка за 27 000 долларов (1 950 000 рублей по нынешнему курсу).

Модифицированный автомобиль Toyota Land Cruiser FJ62 1988 года с сиденьями BMW 5-й серии выглядит довольно дорого

Внешние изменения включают удаление оконных рамок и коромысла. Японский внедорожник был перекрашен в Nissan Grey и оснащен передним бампером ARB, фарами Hella, тонированными стеклами, задним бампером Kaymar с приемником сцепки, а также задним креплением для двух топливных баков.

Колеса получили диаметр 17 дюймов и обтянуты 33-дюймовыми шинами BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A, а на задней двери установлен полноразмерный запасной комплект.

Интерьер получил черные кожаные передние и задние сиденья от BMW 5-Series. Согласно объявлению Bring a Trailer, пол и крыша были облицованы шумопоглощающим материалом Dynamat до завершения установки морского коврового покрытия.

Другие доработки включают покрытие Line-X, нанесенное на грузовой пол, колесные арки и складную спинку заднего сиденья, а съемный резиновый коврик защищает всю площадь.

Что касается силового агрегата, то Land Cruiser получил 4,8-литровый двигатель Vortec V8 в 2011 году, совмещенный с четырехступенчатой ??автоматической коробкой передач и раздаточной коробкой с двумя диапазонами. Также новинкой является топливный бак для смазки Zerk и заводская фурнитура.

Общая стоимость модификация составила ошеломляющие 104 094 долларов. На момент написания статьи самая высокая ставка по BAT составляла 65 000 долларов.

TLC Restores a Beautiful Toyota Land Cruiser FJ62

TLC restoration is celebrating the 70th anniversary of the iconic Toyota Land Cruiser with a special-edition FJ62.

As Land Cruiser connoisseurs, TLC dedicated over 2,200 hours of work to restore an original FJ62 to commemorate their brand new 28,000 square-foot facility in Harrisburg, North Carolina. The new FJ62 is based on the original 1988 model, which features a rebuilt 430 hp LS3 engine with four-speed automatic transmission, along with Old Man Emu suspension and shocks.

Additionally, the vehicle comes with full rear disc brake replacement, restored brake calipers and rotors, chunky BF Goodrich tires, alongside new amenities, such as a modern infotainment system, to power locks and windows. The FJ62 will cost $175,000 USD and is available for inquiry by contacting the team at TLC.
