Toyota Trademarks ‘I-Force MAX’: Could this be an All-new 2022 Toyota Tundra Engine?
Could this new trademark application be a sign that the upcoming 2020 Toyota Tundra will have a whole new engine? Could this perhaps be a twin-turbo gas V6, a turbo gas engine and electric truck hybrid, or another engine altogether?
Toyota files a trademark for “iForce MAX” as it refers to “automobiles and structural parts thereof”. This news comes to us thanks to a Toyota truck fan on a Rivian Forum. Here is a link to the U.S. Trademark application.
The Toyota “iForce” engine designation has been around for over a decade. It is a marketing term for Toyota’s well-regarded V8 truck engines. This includes the current 5.7-liter iForce V8 in the Toyota Tundra, Sequoia, Land Cruiser, and the Lexus LX. While the current V8 has proven reliable and powerful, it’s time to upgrade and move on.
The new “I-Force MAX” name may refer to the new twin-turbo gas V6 engine that Toyota is rumored to have in the all-new 2022 Tundra that is coming next year. Lexus is currently using a twin-turbo gas V6 in their luxury cars. This news is still unofficial. Toyota has not made any official announcements about this.
This may also refer to a rumored twin-turbo V6 / electric hybrid system for the truck (rumored to produce close to 500 horsepower). There is a slim chance it is a new V8 as well. Could it be all of the above? We will have to wait and see to find out for sure.
