The introduction of new Hilux brings changes to the suspension that give a more comfortable on-road ride, while the equipment specifications have been upgraded to keep pace with connectivity, entertainment and safety. External styling changes have ramped up the eye-appeal, particularly for the range-topping Invincible X model.
As before, customers can choose the Hilux body style that best suits their needs: Single Cab for a focus on work; Extra Cab, when occasional extra seating is needed; and Double Cab, with five-seat, four-door convenience, generous deck space and formidable all-wheel drive performance and, on higher grades, SUV-like comfort and accommodation.
New multimedia package and smartphone integration
All versions of new Hilux apart from the entry-level Active grade come with the latest Toyota Touch 2 multimedia system, with faster software and faster response to touchscreen commands. On the Invincible X, the functionality includes satellite navigation.
Smartphone integration is another new feature, via either Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, provided as standard from Icon grade upwards.
The richness of the Hilux Invincible X’s onboard infotainment extends to a powerful nine-speaker JBL Premium Sound audio system, with an eight-channel amp, 244mm subwoofer and Harman Clari-Fi technology that optimises the quality of compressed digital audio files.
Hilux equipment grades
The new model retains the established grade line-up of Active, Icon, Invincible and Invincible X.
Active grade models are designed and specified primarily with work duties in mind, with 17-inch steel wheels, rear diff lock and easy-care PVC upholstery (Single and Extra Cab versions). 2021 Toyota Hilux Invincible X Detailed
The Toyota Hilux has received quite an update, complete with a new look, new cabin as well as an upgraded engine.
Let’s kick off with the engine news, where the 2.8-litre 4-cylinder turbodiesel engine has received a power bump to 150 kW, while peak torque (on the automatic derivative) now sits at a hearty 500 Nm. The best part is Toyota claims that despite the power and torque increase, fuel consumption has improved «by up to 11%». There are also mechanical changes to the suspension.
However, let’s take a moment to focus on the looks and aesthetics. This is not your run-of-the-mill Toyota Hilux. Toyota calls this the Hilux Invincible X and its the range-topping double-cab model. It comes with exclusive styling such as the bold grille and front bumper. There’s a skid plate, runner boards, wheel arch cladding, and bigger wheels. If you look closely, there’s also a unique design on the tailgate. Did we mention there are plenty of Invincible badges everywhere too?
Inside, the Toyota Hilux Invincible X has black metallic and black chrome trim accents, model-specific smart entry key, and dual-tone perforated leather seats.
Toyota South Africa told us: «We will be getting those models, but not immediately. Our timing is quite different to Australia; they don’t source their vehicles from SA. Unique-to-SA derivatives such as the Legend 50 and Dakar bridge the gap and extend the life of our current Hilux offerings.» When pushed for a date, it was suggested that Australia would likely receive this facelifted Hilux in August with South Africa’s units following «months» later.
Краткий тест: Toyota Hilux Executive Invincible
Если вам нужен не просто Hilux, а именно такой прочный и мужской образец, как тестовый, вам нужно будет проверить пакет Invincible в списке аксессуаров. У него гораздо больше внедорожных шин (BF Goodrich All Terrain T / A),

Toyota has announced it will start taking pre-orders for the new 2021 Hilux pickup in September. In the UK. This means the facelifted Hilux will be out before the end of the year. In the UK. Its top-of-the-line is the “Invincible” and “Invincible X.” The 2021 Hilux Invincible is the Pickup the US needs. But we won’t be getting it.
Besides Invincible and Invincible X models, there are Active and Icon models
Besides the Invincible and Invincible X models, there are the Active and Icon Hilux models. In the UK the Invincible starts at $45,746. It comes standard with a 2.4-liter diesel engine with 148 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque. The six-speed manual transmission is standard or for an additional $2,000 you can get a six-speed automatic. A 2.8-liter diesel is optional for a grand total of $46,368 with a standard six-speed manual or $48,333 with a six-speed automatic transmission.
The Invincible comes standard with 18-inch alloy wheels, LED lights, parking sensors, smart entry and smart start, climate control, de-icing for the windshield wipers, and heated front seats. With the Invincible X you can add dark matte grey on the grille frame, skid plates, side steps, and over fenders. Inside you get two-tone dark leather upholstery, power driver’s seat, ambient lighting, and a satellite navigation system. This jumps up the price to $53,016.
Standard on all Hilux models is Toyota Safety Sense
Standard on all Hilux models is Toyota Safety Sense. This is a driver assistance suite. When you bump up to the Icon model you can add an eight-inch infotainment system with both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, 17-inch alloy wheels, rear privacy glass, side steps, LED front fog lamps, power-folding side mirrors, reversing camera, and a limited-slip differential. Shown is the new Titan Bronze metallic paint with more new colors available as well. Other optional accessories are hardtops, roll covers, locking tailgate, and a 12-volt outlet in the bed.
Of course in the US instead of the Hilux we get the Tacoma. Toyota’s reason for this is that the Tacoma features a suspension system that more customers will like. It feels that the Hilux ride and handling is too harsh for American tastes. Since we have not had a chance to drive one we don’t know whether we would dismiss the Hilux so easily were we Toyota.
The Hilux sees its highest sales in Thailand, South America, and South Africa
Worldwide sales are over 500,000 a year according to Toyota. The Hilux sees its highest sales in Thailand, South America, and South Africa. That should tell you it is a rugged truck. But it also is sold in Europe, Indonesia, and New Zealand. With the US chicken tax adding 25% to pickup trucks imported here if Toyota were to consider selling the Hilux here it would have to manufacture it here as well.
So don’t expect the Hilux to be made here any time soon. We will get a new Tacoma sometime after 2022 but the 2020 model debuted some new features not found in previous years.
