2021 Toyota Fortuner Looks Gorgeous In All-Black Exterior
Check out this beautiful-looking, customised Toyota Fortuner, which gets a blacked-out exterior and off-road tyres
Near the beginning of this year, Toyota launched the facelifted Fortuner in India, alongside the new Fortuner Legender. Since its launch in our market, the Fortuner facelift and Fortuner Legender have managed to sell over 5,300 units combined, which is quite impressive. A lot of these buyers are enthusiasts who love to modify their vehicles, and we’ve seen a few lovely customised examples of the 2021 Toyota Fortuner on the streets already.
Here, we have a modified Toyota Fortuner that gets an all-black exterior. The photographs of this customised SUV were shared on social media by @thanci_thanzz. The dark exterior theme looks brilliant on the Fortuner, especially at the front end. Even the chrome bits on the front grille have been finished in black now, which enhances the overall aesthetics of the vehicle.
The SUV hasn’t been completely de-chromed though; the surviving chrome bits include the front logo, the window lining, the door handles, the rear logo, and the Fortuner branding on the tailgate. The alloy wheels have also been blacked-out, and are shod with new BFGoodrich All-Terrain tyres for improved off-roading capabilities.
In the Indian market, Toyota Fortuner is available with two engine options. The first one is a 2.7-litre, naturally aspirated, inline-4 petrol motor that generates a peak power and torque of 166 PS and 245 Nm, respectively. Transmission choices with this powerplant consist of a 5-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic gearbox.
The second engine option is a 2.8-litre, turbocharged, inline-4 mill, capable of developing 204 PS and 500 Nm (420 Nm on manual variant). It can be had with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission. As for the Fortuner Legender, it is available only in diesel-automatic configuration.
As standard, the SUV comes in RWD format, with an AWD option only available on the diesel version of the standard Fortuner (not Legender). In the Indian market, the Toyota Fortuner range is currently priced from Rs. 30.34 lakh to Rs. 38.30 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi), and its rivals include Ford Endeavour, MG Gloster, Mahindra Alturas G4, and Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace.

First-Ever All-Black Toyota Fortuner Facelift — This is IT!
Earlier in January this year, Toyota facelifted the Fortuner in India with a mid-life update, introducing a slew of exterior cosmetic updates, new features on the inside and even some mechanical upgrades. The Toyota Fortuner has always been a very popular vehicle with aftermarket jobs and modifications. Likewise, examples of modified versions of the facelifted SUV have now started surfacing on social media platforms like Instagram. Here we have a subtly modified Toyota Fortuner facelift sporting an all-black theme that’s really accentuating its appeal.
This Toyota Fortuner facelift has been stripped off all its chrome and silver garnishes. Starting from the front, the chrome-finished radiator grille now features a blacked-out theme, and a similar suite is followed for the scuff plate on the front bumper. Over to the sides, the biggest update are obviously to the wheels. Although they remain similar in design as the standard model, the silver finish has been ditched in favour of a gloss black finish. It can also be seen wearing larger, BFGoodrich all-terrain tyres that make it look even more purposeful. At the back, the chrome garnish on the tail gate has been blacked-out as well.
The only chrome element on this SUV adding some contrast are the door handles and the chrome trim along the window line that wrap-around the rear as well. It gives a much-needed break to the bulk of the all-black paint scheme. These subtle modifications are a perfect example of how just a unique paint scheme and larger tyres can vastly alter the look of an SUV. As for its 2021 update, the Toyota Fortuner facelift came with revised LED projector headlamps and a completely new grille which is larger than before but gets far less chrome as standard than the outgoing model.
The biggest change on the 2021 Toyota Fortuner is the new bumper that looks sportier with deep set fog lamp housings and large air dams. It also gets new a design for the 18-inch alloy wheels and slimmer LED taillights at the rear. Toyota also introduced a new Legender variant of the Fortuner in India that gets a completely different face with its own unique bumper that looks even sportier along with a blacked-out split grille. On the inside, Toyota updated the Fortuner with an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system that now comes with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Under the hood, the Toyota Fortuner facelift continues with the 2.7-litre petrol engine that produces 166hp and 245Nm of torque. This engine comes mated to a either a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic gearbox. The 2.8L diesel engine too has been carried over but with certain changes. It continues to produce 177hp and 420Nm of peak torque when paired with the 6-speed manual gearbox. However, if you opt for the automatic-diesel variant, the 2.8L engine has received a healthy upgrade to now produce 204hp and an impressive 500Nm of torque with the 6-speed torque convertor unit.
Type 3 Toyota Fortuner beautifully modified into an all-black Legender edition [Video]
Toyota launched the facelifted version of Fortuner in the market last year. Along with the facelift, the manufacturer also introduced the much more premium and aggressive looking Legender version in the market. It was initially available in 2WD format only. We have seen several customisation videos where a regular Fortuner is heavily customised to look like a Legender. Most of the modifications that we have seen related Legender conversion are done on White SUV. Here we have an all-black type 3 Toyota Fortuner that has been neatly customised to look like a current version Toyota Fortuner Legender SUV.
The video has been uploaded by Autorounders on their YouTube channel. The video starts by showing how the car looked when it arrived at the workshop. The all-black Fortuner was in good condition but, there were small dents and scratches on it. The owner then decided to get the whole car repainted along with the Legender conversion. He wanted to keep the vehicle with him for a longer period of time and that is one of the reason why he opted for a complete repaint. The work on this Toyota Fortuner then starts. The experienced professionals at Autorounders marked all the panels where they found dents and deep scratches.
They start by removing the panels that were being replaced as part of the conversion. The dents and scratches were then corrected. The portion where the dents corrected were then finished with a thin layer of putty. This was done to achieve an even finish. The excess putty on the panels was later sanded away. After the denting work was done, a coat of primer was applied on to the car and then it was taken to the paint booth. The whole car was painted in Sapphire Black shade which is a premium colour which is normally available in BMW cars.
Coming to the conversion part, the front grille, headlamps, front bumper and rear bumper were all replaced. The original headlamps have been replaced with Legender type aftermarket LED headlamps. The bumper has been replaced and it looks a lot more muscular than the usual one. The car now comes with an aggressive looking front grille with Toyota logo in the centre. Coming to the side profile, the original dual tone alloy wheels of the pre-facelift Toyota Fortuner were completely finished in black. The tail lamps on this Fortuner was also replaced with a Legender unit.
The fit and finish of the panels and the quality of paint job done to this SUV looks extremely good. There are no visible panel gaps as most of the panels installed on this Fortuner were actually made for Fortuner. Vlogger does not mention whether the bumper used on this Fortuner is an original part form Toyota or an aftermarket unit. The final product looks quite neat and it looks like a brand new Toyota Fortuner Legender SUV that has just rolled out from the production line. The Black paint job on the SUV has actually elevated the overall look of the car.
