2020 Subaru Forester Turbo, Hybrid
The new, fifth generation of the company’s bestseller came earlier this year and latest reports suggest that we are about to see a couple of interesting novelties already for the second production year. The new generation was presented several months ago. At first glance, you probably won’t notice too many changes compared to the previous model. However, things are better once you step in the new model. It rides better, looks more upscale and has a lot of great things to offer. However, the new model didn’t come with a turbo engine in the offer and that is the biggest novelty that is about to come for the next year. Other than that, the 2020 Subaru Forester will continue in the same way, though we should see a couple of novelties in terms of more standard equipment and similar things.
2020 Subaru Forester Redesign
In terms of base design characteristics, the 2020 Subaru Forester definitely won’t change. The new generation came redesigned recently, but aesthetics haven’t changed too much. Moreover, many of us didn’t notice a difference between the two generations. The company sticks to its famous super-conservative design philosophy, so changes in terms of styling are minimal. The new model comes with a little bit sharper approach, but the overall look is largely unchanged. Even dimensions are pretty much the same. The new model is marginally bigger. Someone could take this as a drawback, but most Subaru drivers actually don’t care too much about aesthetics, but rather on driving experience and practicality.
Therefore, the new model came with significant improvements in terms of mechanics. The new model adopts the company’s new modular architecture, which made it lighter, more agile and more comfortable. Considering all the changes, the 2020 Subaru Forester definitely won’t feature any important change.
2020 Subaru Forester Interior
Interior also won’t feature too many changes. The recent redesign has brought a lot of improvement. The new cabin looks far more upscale. The dashboard design is much better, as well as the materials choice and color combinations. The entire cabin is full of soft-touch materials. Higher trims are pretty luxurious as well. Seats also feature amazing quality and, more importantly, plenty of legroom. Cargo area is also very spacious, definitely above average numbers for the class. You can count on 35 cubic feet behind the second row, while the overall capacity goes over 71 cubic feet.
Trim Levels
Without any doubt, the 2020 Subaru Forester will continue with same trim levels in the offer. Each one could get a few more standard features, but the core will definitely remain the same. The base model could finally get alloy wheels. Rest on the list is just fine, even more than that. You can count on automatic climate control, 6.5-inch touchscreen, smartphone integration, Bluetooth, push-button start etc.
The Premium trim comes with a nice amount of upgrades, with things like roof rails, along with a panoramic sunroof, rear spoiler, tinted windows, hill descent control, color driver information display, leather-wrapped steering wheel, power-adjustable driver’s seat etc.
A Sport trim comes with a couple of distinctive visual details, such as black alloy wheels. It also adds a fine amount of new standard features, like LED fog lights, blind spot monitoring, bigger touchscreen etc.
The Limited trim is more about luxury and convenience, so you can count on leather upholstery, leather-wrapped shifter, dual-zone climate control, automatic headlights etc.
Finally, there is the top-range Touring trim, with additions like DriverFocus system, power-adjustable passenger seat, heated rear seats, LED fog lights, a heated steering wheel with wheel-mounted shift paddles and much more.
2020 Subaru Forester Engine
The thing that drivers like most about Subaru is its amazing handling, as well as the overall ride quality. There is a good reason for that. All Forester and other Subaru models feature the company’s famous AWD system, which came even more upgraded with the last redesign. Unfortunately for Forester lovers, there is only a 2.5-liter atmospheric gasoline engine in the offer. It delivers around 185 horsepower and comes in pair with a CVT gearbox. Though performances aren’t spectacular, fuel economy is amazing. You can count on 26 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on the highway which is impressive, considering that we are talking about a vehicle that runs on four wheels.
Fortunately, the company has prepared one big novelty for the next year. Latest reports suggest that the inline-turbo will finally arrive. It is the company’s new 2.4-liter unit that is good for about 260 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque and we can only imagine how the new 2020 Subaru Forester impressive will be with it.
2020 Subaru Forester Release Date and Price
The 2020 Subaru Forester will come sometime late in the next year, definitely in the last quarter. We don’t expect changes, at least in terms of the base price, which currently goes around 24.000 dollars. Still, count on a nice increase in versions with the new turbo engine.

Subaru Forester

Subaru Forester
с. (-6), 196 Н•м.
Sportier Subaru Forester gets 175-hp turbo four, suspension tweaks in Japan
Could this engine find its way into American showrooms?

Subaru has finally put a turbocharged flat-four under the hood of the fifth-generation Forester. Called Sport, the model is exclusively available in its home country of Japan — for the time being, at least.
Power for the Sport model comes from a 1.8-liter flat-four that’s turbocharged and direct-injected to deliver 175 horsepower from 5,200 to 5,600 rpm and 221 pound-feet of torque between 1,600 and 3,600 rpm. Also found in the Levorg station wagon, it’s no match for the last-generation XT engine, whose horsepower and torque outputs checked in at 250 and 258, respectively. Compared to the naturally-aspirated 2.5-liter the Forester is currently offered with, however, it offers about the same amount of horsepower and 44 additional pound-feet of torque. It should make Subaru’s hot-selling crossover markedly peppier in a variety of driving conditions.
It sounds like the days of the stick-shifted Forester are gone for good, because even the Sport-badged member of the range is only available with a continuously variable transmission (CVT). It does benefit from a handful of suspension tweaks that come together to deliver sportier handling, according to Subaru. Symmetrical all-wheel drive comes standard.
Gold wheels, a hood scoop, and an oversized spoiler? Not here. Sport models stand out from the other variants with a black grille and darker wheels, among other subtle styling revisions. Inside, Subaru added a blend of suede and leather upholstery, plus a camera-based driver monitoring system that recognizes the person sitting behind the wheel and adjusts a variety of parameters (like the position of the seat and the mirrors) accordingly.
On sale now in Japan, the Subaru Forester Sport carries a base price of 2,990,000 yen, a sum which converts to approximately $28,500. It might also be available in other global markets, like Australia, but it’s too early to tell if we’ll see it in American showrooms. Subaru told us it can’t discuss future products, which isn’t a confirmation or a denial.
It’s worth pointing out that, even if the Forester Sport ends up not being sold here, the 1.8-liter turbo four that powers it could find its way to our shores under the hood of another model. Use your imagination in the comments below. And stay tuned.
