Jeep Wrangler Overlook Concept at SEMA Show

If you have followed Jeep for more than a few years the 2022 Wrangler Overlook concept might ring a little familiar. Back in 2015 the Africa Concept based on the last generation Wrangler JK made its bid at the annual Easter Safari.

Fast forward to today, the Overlook Concept takes the Wrangler Sahara and adds 12-inches behind the rear axle to make it into a three-row luxury off-roader. Looking very much like it could take you on an African safari, the roof is raised 5-inches in the rear with lots of view windows to add some adventure to it all.

The rear shell itself is for the most part fixed but a custom removable one-piece Freedom Top sits over the front row driver and passenger and has a flip-up glass sunroof. When you open the rear gate you find a lot less space than expected as the third row seat is there.

Surprisingly though the cabin area for the third row seems large enough to be comfortable for most adults and the headroom is certainly there.

Closed, you can see the huge spare mounted with a tailgate reinforcement system and oversized spare tire modification kit. Also at the center of the wheels is a JPP CHMSL relocation kit. Custom-made rear bumper extensions reach about 12 inches around each quarter panel to the wheel flares.

While the Sahara is already a pretty luxuriously trimmed out Wrangler, this interior is trimmed with black Katzkin leather seats and a notably well done black leather-wrapped dash. Both seats and dash are accented with Sahara Bronze stitching to match the exterior.

Center panels in the seats use Raven Black suede in a hexed stitch pattern. Front seats have a Jeep grille logo embroidered in the seat backs. Helping protect the sill areas under all four doors are black sill guards featuring the vehicle’s logo.

The Overlook has a mean stance aided by a Jeep Performance Parts 2-inch lift kit along with FOX shocks. Wheels are 20-inch Black Rhino York with some meaty 37-inch BFGoodrich KM3tires. Other factory accessories include tubular side steps.

Up front is a new design theme for a stamped steel front bumper narrower than the stock and has LED fog lights and an integrated winch. Up top are a set of JPP 5-inch off-road LED lights.

Ничем не объяснимая мода на семиместные внедорожники и кроссоверы продолжается. Возможно, у нас недостаточно знакомых, но пока ни разу никто не подкатывал в автомобиле, три ряда которого забиты гомонящими детьми и тещами, сжимающими между колен горшки с рассадой. Семиместные автомобили люди покупают, но ездят на них преимущественно в одиночку, в чем можно убедиться, если оглядеться в пробке.

Это же странное семиместное авто, очевидно, предназначено для доставки многодетной семьи на дно Гранд-Каньона — другое назначение для такого монстра придумать сложно. Крышу можно снять, и в ней предусмотрен откидной люк для стрелков над передними сиденьями. Кресла отделаны черной кожей с вышитыми изображениями радиаторной решетки и фар бронзового цвета и с прострочкой.

Обшитые кожей приборная панель и руль создают атмосферу байкерского логова. Кузов окрашен в цвет Sahara Bronze. Клиренс увеличен на два дюйма с помощью лифт-кита и амортизаторов Fox. Сделанные специально для выставки в Лас-Вегасе 20-дюймовые внедорожные диски снабжены 37-дюймовыми экстремальными шинами BF Goodrich, впереди установлен дополнительный свет.

Here Are the Wildest and Wackiest Jeep Wranglers of the 2017 SEMA Show

There’s always a nugget of important news buried in the expansive of 40-inch rims and valve manufacturers that is SEMA, and this year it was the first pictures of the all-new and much-anticipated 2018 Jeep Wrangler. It was a bit of a surprise, considering the truck itself will be unveiled in the metal next month at the Los Angeles Auto Show.

Then again, maybe crowding out our first glimpse at the clean lines and sensible tires of upcoming model with a convention center’s worth of X-treme custom Wranglers was a strategic move after all. Compared to many of the designs spread across the million-plus square feet of show floor—ranging from I’d probably drive this to This scares me—the new model stood out like, well, the only stock truck at the Specialty Equipment Market Association show.

Where do all these ‘roided-out Wranglers come from? SEMA is a trade show for the entire aftermarket, which means everything from tire manufacturers to supercharger shops to off-road garages have to vie for your attention on the same floor. To stand out, companies often team up to create these crazy builds in hopes of making you stop and stare. Some drive, some don’t. Some are tasteful, some absolutely are not. But all of them carry that special balls-to-the-wall exuberance that makes the Jeep Wrangler one of the most fun trucks you can buy today.

Take a gander at some gnarly modifications to the timeless American classic: The Jeep Wrangler.

The Jeep Wrangler has been around since 1986, with a fresh update every decade since 2007. While the current model is a little dated, Jeep will soon replace it with an all-new model, the JL, for 2018.

The key to the Wrangler’s success is that it is an off-road capable vehicle straight from the showroom that deserves every bit of its “Trail Rated” badge. With over 250,000 Wranglers sold annually, there is no shortage of Jeep enthusiasts around the world.

Also, the aftermarket support for the Wrangler is unlike any other vehicle on the market today. It just won the “Hottest 4×4-SUV Award” for the seventh year in a row at the annual SEMA Show, a major aftermarket-specialty automotive trade show .

Off-Road Mods At SEMA

Over 200 modified Jeeps were at SEMA this year. More than 150 were 4-door, JKU variants. Modifications can be completely absurd, like huge deep-dish chrome wheels wrapped in rubber band-like mud tires and suicide doors.

But there are also truly spectacular mods, like superchargers, diesel engine swaps, and pop-top roofs with integrated sleep systems.

Jeep Wrangler: Pros And Cons

Despite its rugged looks and underpinnings, the Wrangler isn’t for everyone. It is relatively underpowered, offers pretty poor fuel economy, and usually offers a lackluster plastic interior.

Jeep continues to improve on these shortcomings with more advanced powertrains and upscale interiors throughout the JK’s life cycle. The solid axle configuration provides much of the off-road durability and prowess, but also greatly hurts the vehicle’s on-road comfort.

The Wrangler is iconic among the outdoor crowd because it expertly hauls you, your friends, and your gear to the action. Whether you’re heading to a remote mountain powder stash or a ‘secret’ surf spot without roads, the Wrangler will get you there.

It’s capable straight off the factory floor, and is easy to enhance with readily available parts.

Despite its vast popularity, the Wrangler brand is poised to attract an even wider audience. A rumored Wrangler pickup truck and upcoming diesel engine, available on the to-be-released Jeep JL, are sure to attract more fans.

Jeep Went Full Retro With This SEMA Wrangler Concept

Jeep’s got a longstanding history of making rad, retro concept 4x4s. Shows like SEMA and the annual Easter Jeep Safari provide a perfect opportunity for the legendary brand to make delicious mashups of old style and modern performance. And Jeep’s creation for SEMA 2016 doesn’t disappoint.

Feast your eyes on the Jeep CJ66. At first glance, it looks like just a gussied-up old CJ. But there’s copper-colored gold in the details.

The body, a 1966 long-wheelbase CJ that started life as upmarket «Tuxedo Park» package, sits on a somewhat more modern (1997-2006) TJ Wrangler frame. A modern crate Mopar V8 spins a six-speed manual transmission and crate Dana 44 axles front and rear.

The current JK Wrangler shows up in a few key places. Check out the black hood-scoop inset: That’s cut from a factory 2016 Wrangler hood. Today’s Jeep also donated its headlight bezels, front and rear bumpers, and the center console. The seats are Dodge Viper units, and the custom steering wheel features Jeep’s 50th anniversary Moab Easter Jeep Safari logo.

Of course, this show truck is a rolling showroom for Mopar accessories. The crate engine (details of which we can’t yet divulge), intake, exhaust, and axles came from the Mopar catalog; the 17-inch beadlock wheels, skid plates, and rock rails are from Jeep Performance Parts. Mopar supplied the LED fog lamps, the Warn winch, and the gauges and interior mats.

Jeep has a habit of capitalizing on its 70-year history of making open-topped rugged off-roaders. Luckily, this trend shows no sign of getting old.
