Renault India has given its compact SUV, the Duster, some much-needed updates for 2019. The French carmaker has rejigged the Duster’s variant lineup and has introduced a new infotainment system as well.
As we had reported earlier, the 2019 Duster now comes with Renault/Dacia’s latest MediaNav Evolution a.k.a Media Nav 4.0 infotainment system. The new unit supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The carmaker announced the new infotainment system at the 2018 Paris Motor Show in October and began equipping the new unit in its global models in January 2019.
Although the new infotainment system carries forward the basic design as well as the signature block-type user interface (UI) seen in the previous version, it now incorporates a capacitive touchscreen panel (smartphone-like). The older unit had an outdated press-type resistive touchscreen. Renault claims the new unit also features a relatively faster processor. The new infotainment system is available with all variants, except the base-spec RXE.
The latest update seems to be the current-gen Duster’s last hurrah as the second-gen model is expected to be introduced soon. Sadly, even with the updates for the new year, Renault has not standardised airbags on the Duster when even it’s entry-level model, the Kwid, gets a driver airbag as standard now. So expect Renault to give the existing Duster one more update or introduce the second-gen model soon.
With the 2019 update, Renault has also discontinued a couple of variants of the Duster. The mid-spec RXL petrol (Rs 8.79 lakh) and the top-spec RXZ diesel AMT (Rs 12.33 lakh) variants are no longer available. The current price range of the 2019 Renault Duster are as follows:
Renault Duster
Diesel 85PS
Diesel 110PS
Renault Duster gains new infotainment system with Apple CarPlay & Android Auto
Renault has introduced the MediaNav Evolution infotainment system in the Duster. This 7-inch touchscreen unit offers Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support — a first for Renault models in India.
The old Renault Duster was equipped with the 7-inch MediaNav touchscreen infotainment system featuring GPS navigation. The 7-inch MediaNav Evolution doesn’t seem to offer GPS navigation, but most customers would probably prefer smartphone integration. The new model is available in RxE, RxS and RxZ grades, and only the base grade doesn’t include a touchscreen infotainment system.
The MediaNav Evolution infotainment system could soon find its way into the Renault Captur, which sits above the Renault Duster. Reports say that the Renault Kwid and Lodgy also will feature a touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support soon. It is safe to assume that the Renault RBC sub-4 metre MPV that will go on sale in the second half of this year will offer smartphone integration right from the beginning.
The Renault Duster is available with the 1.5-litre H4K petrol engine that produces 106 PS and 142 Nm of torque as well as the 1.5-litre dCi diesel engine in 85 PS/200 Nm and 110 PS/245 Nm versions. The petrol engine is paired with a 5-speed manual transmission or a CVT. The 85 PS diesel engine sends drive to the wheels via a 5-speed manual transmission. The 110 PS diesel engine is coupled to a 6-speed manual transmission or a 6-speed automated manual transmission. An AWD system is available, but only on selecting the 110 PS diesel engine and the 6-speed manual transmission.
The updated Renault Duster’s prices range from INR 7,99,900-13,09,900 (ex-showroom Delhi). The second generation model is said to reach the Indian shores later this year.

- The new system (Media Nav 4.0) supports Apple CarPlay and Google Android Auto.
- Both connectivity options are available with Renault’s R-link infotainment system which is only available on premium Renault cars internationally.
- The overall design and UI remains the same as the outgoing system.
- Now comes with multi-touch, smartphone-like capacitive touchscreen and a more powerful processor.
Renault and Dacia (subsidiary brand) announced its updated Media Nav infotainment system at the 2018 Paris Motor Show in October. And now, Renault has started rolling out the new system for its cars. The new infotainment system supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and should be India-bound since these features are now available on more affordable cars as well. None of the Renault cars in India offer Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support right now, whereas hatchbacks like Hyundai Santro and Datsun GO feature the same.
Like the outgoing system, the new Media Nav 4.0 is also a 7-inch unit. In fact, the basic design of the system has been carried forward and it looks identical to the outgoing version. It also gets Renault’s signature block type UI, which was also there in the previous system. But that’s where the similarities end. First off, Media Nav 4.0 gets a multi-touch capacitive touchscreen (smartphone-like) compared to the press-type resistive screen of the previous system.
Not only do capacitive touch-based screens offer feather touch capability, but under direct sunlight, the glare is lesser and these look relatively vivid too. Renault has also equipped it with a more powerful processor that should offer better performance compared to the current system.
Renault has not introduced any India-specific infotainment in its lineup here and going forward, we expect the carmaker to offer the same infotainment system that it offers overseas. The French carmaker is, therefore likely to offer Media Nav 4.0 throughout its range in India. Expect the system to be offered on the upcoming Duster, Kwid, Kwid-based MPV, and Captur.
