Porsche Cayenne
Porsche cayenne facelift 2023
Ever since it was launched in 2002, the Cayenne has reimagined what an SUV can be. From flexibility to comfort, off-road ability to the sporty performance that you associate with Porsche, it continues to evolve – as the new Cayenne proves
With the new Cayenne, Porsche has written the next chapter in a story that began two decades ago. It was in 2002 that the company launched its first ever SUV. It was an instant success – something that Ferry Porsche himself had predicted. “If we build an off-road model according to our standards of quality,” the founder of Porsche said back in 1989, “and it has a Porsche crest on the front, people will buy it.”
When the Cayenne made its debut, its all-round capability created quite the frenzy of excitement – here was a sportscar and off-roader in one. What’s more, it did so with long-distance comfort a key attribute. These attributes are at the heart of the car’s appeal today, but the new Porsche Cayenne also showcases new technology, new design elements, new engines, new personalisation options and much more. Here are some of the highlights.
1 The new 2023 Porsche Cayenne exterior
Like the previous model, the new Cayenne is available in two body shapes – the Cayenne and the Cayenne Coupé. The latter sits lower than its sibling and has a sportier attitude, but both get new designs for the bumper, bonnet and front headlights (more of which later) as well as larger 20-inch wheels as standard and a new choice of rims. The rear has been restyled too, including a new tailgate design, with new features for the Cayenne Coupé, and the rear lights are also a new design too.
There are a number of new metallic exterior colours for the Cayenne too, including Algarve Blue and Montego Blue, as well as a new special colour, Arctic Grey. Of course, customers will have the opportunity to personalise their new Cayenne their way with the huge range of colour options available.
2 Innovative new Porsche Driving Experience in the new 2023 Cayenne interior
Inside the new Cayenne you will find driver and passenger-oriented technology that is truly ground breaking. The new display and control concept in the Cayenne – the Porsche Driver Experience – has a fully digital display, versatile individualisation and intuitive operation. There’s a 12.6-inch curved instrument display for the driver, a 12.3-inch centre display and a new optional 10.9-inch passenger display. For the first time, advances in screen technology means that the driver display does not require a hood to cover it, which gives it a really modern, slimline appearance.
The optional 10.9-inch passenger display provides a touchscreen, which lets the front passenger control devices like the navigation or selecting the media service – something that can really help take the strain off the driver. The new Cayenne is designed to enable experiences together – here’s a great example of it. Passengers can also watch streamed videos from the new Porsche service, In-Car Video, where customers can access their favourite streaming services in one place. There’s a special foil on the passenger display that can’t be seen from the driver’s seat in order that it does not distract the driver. Video can also be streamed to the central display when the Cayenne is stationary.
3 New headlight technology in the new 2023 Cayenne
The new Cayenne features the next generation of Porsche lighting in the form of the new high-resolution HD matrix technology for its headlights. Its light distribution is up to twice as bright than previous high-end lighting systems in the Cayenne. Its key innovation is a chip that combines over 16,000 individually controllable micro-LEDs onto a surface area the size of a thumbnail – there are two of these chips in each of the headlights.
There’s also a high-performance high beam that turns night into day at a distance of up to 600m. A new, non-dazzling high beam function is used for oncoming cars, where large areas to the right and left of the anti-dazzling gap become significantly brighter.
4 New steering wheel for the new 2023 Cayenne
Modern and sporty, the new multifunction sports steering wheel in the Cayenne has its origins in the 911 and has been completely reworked compared to the previous model. It features a driving mode switch, fitted as standard, which allows you to flick between Normal, Offroad, Sport and Sport Plus modes directly on the steering wheel itself. The new toggle button for selecting functions and designs in the instrument cluster is also located directly on the new steering wheel, as are controls for the optional head-up display. It’s another high-quality addition to the new Cayenne interior.
5 The 2023 Cayenne features new efficient and powerful engines, including new plug-in hybrids
A new range of efficient and powerful engines have benefitted from power upgrades across all versions compared to those of the previous Cayenne model. On launch, customers in Europe will have a choice of three different engines to choose from. A new, updated version of the four-litre V8 biturbo is fitted in the Cayenne S, which can accelerate from 0-100km/h in 4.7 seconds, while the new entry-level Cayenne comes with a three-litre, 353PS V6 turbo engine. A version of this engine is the basis for the powertrain in the new Cayenne E-hybrid. The plug-in hybrid (PHEV) has vastly more power than its predecessor, not least because of a new electric motor, which see its power increase from 41PS to 176PS, resulting in a combined power output of 470PS. Depending on the equipment level, up to 90km in purely electric range is now possible.
The new Cayenne Turbo GT will top the range for most markets (although it is not offered in Europe, Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan, India and Singapore). Available exclusively as a Coupé, it can reach the 100km/h mark from standstill in just 3.3 seconds.
6. New wheels and chassis upgrades in the new 2023 Cayenne
There are several new wheel designs for the new Cayenne, which now come with 20-inch wheels as standard – compared to the previous 19-inch standard-size wheels of the previous Cayenne – which further increase your customisation options. These wheels, combined with the new semi-active chassis, mean increased driving comfort, improved body control and even sportier driving dynamics.
7. How the new 2023 Cayenne mixes luxury and sportiness in the SUV segment
The new Porsche Cayenne is the sportscar in the SUV segment – a fact that’s reflected in its interior. Here a sporty feel combines with luxurious comfort. As well as the new display and control concept in the Cayenne – the Porsche Driver Experience – the centre console and upper part of the inside of the door have been totally redesigned. It creates an increased horizontal emphasis that makes the interior feel even wider. There are elegantly designed, vertically aligned air vents and, for the first time, Porsche has designed all the air outlets in the cockpit without louvres. What’s more, the Air Quality System incorporates an ioniser with fine dust sensor that can help leave you feeling fresh on your drive. Whether on the drive to work, heading off-road or on a road trip, the new Cayenne offers precision and driving pleasure whatever you use it for – and paired with inimitable Porsche Design DNA.
