Georgia Police PIT Jeep Grand Cherokee, Sending It Flying And Killing Two Occupants

Police in Georgia have shared a shocking dashcam video online that shows the moment an officer performed a PIT maneuver on a Jeep Grand Cherokee at high speed, sending the SUV flying into the air and killing the two occupants.

Local authorities started to chase the Grand Cherokee just before 1 a.m. on the morning of September 30, 2022, noting that it was traveling at a high rate of speed and had changed lanes without using the turn signal.

The driver of the Jeep refused to stop for police and proceeded to speed along the highway at speeds exceeding 100 mph (160 km/h). At one stage, the driver exited the highway and slowed down, allowing one of the passengers to step out of the SUV. The driver then re-entered the I-75/85 highway, this time traveling south and once again significantly exceeding the posted speed limit.

Soon after, one of the police officers who was after the Jeep decided he had to terminate the chase immediately and hit it from the rear quarter. The force of this impact sent the Grand Cherokee into a grassy embankment on the side of the highway, resulting in it soaring through the air. The SUV can then be seen slamming into a barrier, flipping, and landing on its roof.

Both the driver and passenger of the Jeep were thrown out of it and found dead by police. An AR-15 rifle was also found near the suspects. Local police state that the passenger who jumped out of the Grand Cherokee midway through the pursuit was arrested and transported to a local hospital due to a gunshot wound he suffered prior to the chase.

TBT: The Offroad Capable 2014 Jeep® Cherokee Dakar Concept:

We Take A Look At One Of The Most Capable KL Cherokees, Jeep Has Built.

When the Jeep® brand launched the Cherokee (KL), there was a lot of discussions, whether the front-wheel-drive based SUV would live up to the Cherokee name. So when the 2014 Moab Easter Jeep Safari was announced, Mopar and Jeep decided to build the most extreme off-road version of the new Cherokee, called the Cherokee Dakar Concept.

The Silver Steel Satin Gloss exterior skin was strikingly set off with prototype Flame Red graphics that encircled the window and wrap around the black hood graphic. The Cherokee Trailhawk’s 17-inch polished Satin clear coat wheels featured two large Flame Red pockets, with the Cherokee nameplate, also changed to a Flame Red hue.

Front-end features were enhanced by two prototype Flame Red inserts on the traditional Jeep seven-slot grille, as well as through a prototype lower fascia trim. The Cherokee Dakar was fortified for off-road action, equipped with Jeep Performance Parts rock rails, an oil pan skid plate, front suspension skid plate, two-piece fuel tank, and underbody skid plates.

Cherokee Dakar’s wheel openings were modified in order to accommodate larger 33-inch BFGoodrich Mud-Terrain tires. The rough-and-ready look was also enhanced with a prototype Jeep Performance Parts lift kit and additional suspension modifications. Prototype wider fender flares with riveted bolts gave a tougher appearance and also accommodate the wider track and larger tires. A prototype rear fascia allowed for an even more aggressive departure angle and enhances the higher ride height. The Cherokee Dakar featured a crawl ratio of 48:1, and an estimated approach and departure angles are 32 and 39 degrees, respectively.

Inside, prototype Katzkin leather black seats with “Machined Gunmetal” inserts were heightened with Header Red stitching, which could also be found on the steering wheel, armrest and shift boot. Flame Red insert accent bezels surround the 8.4-inch Uconnect infotainment system. Accessories showcased from the Mopar catalog included all-weather floor mats, bright door-sill guards with the Cherokee logo, a cargo tray for storage, and the JCMS with the Trailhawk bag, as well as the prototype Moab off-road bag.

2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT Red Vapor Edition Debuts In Paris

Jeep’s Grand Cherokee SRT gets a few updates for the 2015 model year, including a bump in output to 475 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque, up from the 2014 model’s 470 hp and 465 lb-ft. Also new is a special edition model called the Red Vapor, which made its debut last week at the 2014 Paris Auto Show.

The special Grand Cherokee SRT gets a number of distinct exterior and interior touches and is available in three different colors: Brilliant Black Crystal Pearl Coat, Bright White Clear Coat and Redline Red Pearl Clear Coat, the latter of which is featured in our live photos gallery. Other special touches include 20-inch Goliath-style wheels, gloss black detailing, backlit SRT logos, cabin accents in red, and a custom engine cover.

In addition to the increase in power and the Red Vapor special edition, 2015 also sees the Grand Cherokee SRT receive an Active Noise Canceling system. Using the vehicle audio system and four microphones located in the cabin, the system helps reduce outside noise, allowing for a more relaxing and refined ride.

All 2015 Grand Cherokee SRT come with a 6.4-liter HEMI V-8, eight-speed automatic, Pirelli tires (either Scorpion Verde all-season or available Pirelli P Zero three-season), Brembo brakes (six-piston up front and four-piston in the rear), Selec-Track adjustable suspension with Bilstein dampers, and a 7,200-lb towing capacity.

In terms of performance, owners can expect 0-60 mph acceleration in just 4.8 seconds and a quarter mile time in the mid-13s. Top speed, meanwhile, is 160 mph.
