Nissan Qashqai or Ford Focus C max
As the title says which one? We had a Renault Scenic a while ago which was a very user friendly car, but we had lots of problems. Does anyone know anything about reliabilty or drivability of either of these. Have looked at Honest John etc.

Don’t really know about Fords, but my old Nissan primera was reliable as a horse, didn’t really have anything major until after 100k on the clock.
Having a quick google a lot of people question the qashqai’s reliability.
2010’s most reliable cars were:
1. Honda
2. Subaru
3. Mitsubishi
4. Lexus
5. Toyota
6. Mazda
7. Nissan
8. Skoda
9. Kia
10. Mini
Although saying that, I know someone high up in Honda and he said not to buy a new honda as they’re cheap and nasty.
We’ve ha 2 CMAX since 2004. The first was a 2004 reg 2.0TDCi. It had a number of software glitches that were irritating, but never stopped the car from working. It was a very comfortable car, we’re a family of 4 (2 young kids) & it always served us really well. Averaged about 44mpg in a mix of urban / motorway driving, never let us down & was fairly cheap to service etc.
The one we’ve got now was registered in 2008 & is the 2.0TDCi Powershift (auto). This one is averaging about 42mpg and (I don’t want to jinx this) has been totally reliable.
They’re nice cars to drive, has got plenty of ‘go’ about it if needed and meets our needs — this is our main family car.
Can’t comment on the Qashqai as never owned or tried one, but we have been very happy with both our CMAXs (and I’m quite picky when it comes to cars!)
Qashqai, for build quality, comfort, reliability and style. Nissan Juke is stunning too (compact), both to look at and drive but selling like hot cakes and a canny waiting list i believe. The 1.6 petrol turbo is great to drive.
should the qashqai not be compared with the ford kuga rather than the c max?
i really don’t see the attraction in the nissans,be it the qashqai or the juke, the qashqai looks super bland, and the juke just looks hideous.

dont know why but i look at the JOKE sorry JUKE and think its been designed by the fiat multipla design team!
CMAX i would go for out of the two.

Presume you want the 5 seater versions, rather than the 7 seater ones? As you had a Scenic before, which has 5 seats.
The new C-Max is an excellent car, and so is the Qashqai, so can see why it is a tough choice.
The reviews for the C-Max are generally better, and it is a newer car. There are reviews of it compiled here — New C Max
The Qashqai is older, but too gets very good reviews. Compiled reviews here — Qashqai
I haven’t seen many owner reviews for the C-Max, probably cos it just came out.
Might also be worth looking at the Peugeot 3008. Link to the Peugeot site — 3008
It looks quite smart and too is meant to be pretty good. It won Whatcar car of the year.

Would just like to point out that I test drove the 1.6 DiG-T and was not impressed at all, so much so that I cancelled my pre-ordered Juke much to the annoyance of the dealership.
I stupidly ordered on the basis of the promo material then when the dealers demo car came I was allowed to drive it for an evening(as per the sale agreement). Admittedly where I drove wasn’t the smoothest of roads but the ride was rough, cabin very noisy and the 1.6 turbo, even on sporty mode, wasn’t up to much compared to other 1.6 turbo’s I have driven in the past, goodness knows what Nissan did to get the quoted 190 horses as a few were posted missing when I drove it.
However, the car in itself was nice, the Tekna had all the toys and it is no wonder there was a 3-6 month waiting list but I couldn’t justify the price tag for a car that didn’t deliver the ‘oompf’ that was promised.
I had a Quashqai and it was soooooo comfy and lovely seating position. I got mine when it first came out in 2007 and it had a few recalls, so hopefully they have sorted out those glitches. The 1.6 was not a big enough engine for the size of the car and when I bought mine it was £15k, now they are £2-3k more. I would get the bigger engine and in a diesel but then the price of a new car escalates to £20k. I sold mine for a brand new Kia Ceed and I miss the height and comfort, but the drive in the Nissan was a little jerky and the Ceed is so easy, after all it is the Reasonably priced car on Top Gear — thank you Mr Clarkson. I will be buying another Nissan in two years time, but the bigger engine and a two to three year old one. I miss mine, although don’t miss the fuel economy, which was rubbish.
Food and Smellies Shop target £50 pw — managed average of £49 per week in 2013 down to £38.90 per week in 2016

those big round spotlights in the front bumper feel like the same kind of plastic lens you get on a torch from poundland.
