Jeep Cherokee Front coils and shocks

These parts are basically just a remove the old and install the new type of situation. Although some things may be tricky without some previous experience.

You will want to support the vehicle under the frame so the axle can move freely up and down. You may also want to position a floor jack under the front differential to raise and lower for convenience.

I sprayed all the bolts again that I was going to be removing with PB Blaster so they would come off easier.

FRONT SHOCKS REMOVAL
Here are the lower mounting bolts that you will need to remove to take off the front shock. I used an extension with a socket wrench on the bottom. It is hard to get tools in the tight space so that seemed to work the best for me.
The other end is attached under the hood and can easily be removed by removing the nut at the top.

SWAYBAR LINK REMOVAL
Remove the swaybar links by taking off the nut on the top and removing the nut off the bottom. Pull the sway link off.

IMPORTANT NOTE: The bolt on the bottom is pressed in and is splined. I tried using a torx55 to «unscrew» it and it wouldn’t budge(obviously). After trying finding out that it is splined and pressed in I found that the best way to remove it was to heat up the metal with a torch and then hammer it through. I have also hear that you can cut the torx end off with a angle grinder and use the sway bar link as leverage to crank it out.

This is what the splined bolt looks like. This is the other side that came out easily with a hammer and torch.

TAP FOR BUMPSTOPS
If you got new bumpstops you will now want to tap the center of the lower coil mount. The self tapping bolts are garbage. I would suggest tapping it. Or you could just glue it to the lower mount. You just dont want it moving around.

INSTALL THE NEW COIL
Put the new coil in place by slipping it up over the upper bumpers and holding the bumpstop inside while sliding it onto the lower mount. Place the coil’s bottom endpoint in the appropriate place in the lower mount. You will also want to screw in the lower holding bracket to hold the coil down.

IMPORTANT NOTE: You may need a coil spring compressor to accomplish this part. On this lift I only needed it on the passenger side coil.

SWAY BAR DISCONNECTS
Bolt on the new sway bar disconnects. Just bolt it on.

IMPORTANT NOTE: When you put these on you may think there is something wrong if one can connect and disconnect and the other seems to be offset and you cannot take it on and off. This is just because you need to adjust your trackbar. Once the trackbar is adjusted correctly, they will both line up correctly.

FRONT SHOCK
Go ahead and install the front shock.

Now you will want to make some adjustments to the trackbar and the steering linkages to make your driving experience pleasant. Otherwise you will have a crooked steering wheel and your axle will be off center.
