The Tools to Remove the 2021 Jeep Wrangler’s Roof

You don’t have to search very far for the necessary tools to remove the roof, as Jeep provides you with everything you need. The pouch that contains the tools even includes instructions. Your Wrangler even has a place to safely store the bolts that will be removed.

Front Panels

To remove the Freedom Top from the Wrangler, start with the two panels above the front seats. This is valid for all models (two or four doors). The only difference is that the roof of the latter is larger. Locate the four rotary latches attached to each of the removable panels. Then turn the latches on each panel until they no longer overlap the mounting plates on the Wrangler’s roll bar structure.

Once the rotary latches (L-shaped) and the safety latch are in the open position, push on each panel from the inside of the vehicle to remove them. Ideally, another person standing outside of the car will assist you with the operation, although the panels are light enough to be removed by one person. They can be placed in a case provided by Jeep and placed in the trunk.

Rear Panels

To remove the rest of the roof, you must disconnect the electrical connector that powers the rear window defroster and wiper, as well as the washer fluid tube. Both are located on the left side of the cargo area, just inside the tailgate opening.

Next, you need to remove six bolts. Three bolts connect each side of the hardtop to the Wrangler’s body. Remove them using the tools provided.

The next step is to remove the panels. The front part of the hardtop is attached to the Wrangler’s roll bar with two additional bolts, one on each side. These are only visible after removing the two hardtop panels above the front seats. This is why you must start from the front, otherwise the bolts for removing the rear section are not exposed. Once the bolts have been removed, you can remove the rear section.

Be careful, however, because the roof is a lot heavier than the panels and you will need help to do remove it. It is also crucial that the roof is handled carefully to avoid damaging the roof or the vehicle.
