The Jeep Grand One Concept celebrated the 25th anniversary of the Grand Cherokee with a modernized spin on a classic 1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee (ZJ).

Jeep’s Grand One Concept was built on a white 1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo purchased off of Craigslist from Pennsylvania.

On the exterior, the Grand One Concept features custom 18-inch lace-style wheels, high-clearance fender flares, extended wheelbase, trimmed fascias and a subtle wood grain treatment on the body.

The Jeep Grand One Concept includes 33-inch BFGoodrich Mud-Terrain KM2 tires, front and rear axles equipped with selectable locking differentials and a 2-inch suspension lift.

Inside, the interior continues the celebration of the original Grand Cherokee with ’90s-inspired materials and touches, bed liner applied to replace the carpet and accessorized with an old-school car phone.

The Grand One is powered by a 5.2-liter V-8 engine, mated to a four-speed automatic transmission. In its stock form, the 5.2-liter made 220-horsepower and 280 lb-ft. of torque.

2017 Jeep Grand One – a piece of restored heaven!

As it seems not every concept that has been preparing for the 2017 Easter Jeep Safari is a Wrangler, and yes we know that there is a Compass-based Trailpass, but we are talking about something entirely different. We present you The Grand One which is basically a 1993 Grand Cherokee ZJ that Jeep bought off Craigslist and fully restored with much attention to details. The Jeep decided to do this as an honor to the Grand Cherokee’s 25th anniversary.

The ZJ Grand Cherokee you see here has a 5.2-liter V8 and four-speed automatic transmission both of which have been restored to proper working order as well as the rest of the car, which is awesome. It also received a few modifications that include a two-inch suspension lift to help clear the 33-inch BFGoodrich Mud-Terrain T/A KM2 tires.

The engineers also had to make additional room between the new Dana 44 solid axles, meaning that the front axle is relocated two inches forward, while the rear was moved back three inches (all of that thanks to longer control arms). This further required for the wheel arches to be adjusted as they needed to be widened and the fender flares now nicely cover up these more meaty tires.

What strikes you first is the color which is just remarkable, and it is combined with translucent wood grain paneling along the sides. It has a nice coat of a warm blue hue which is that much highlighted by the matte black accents on the hood, grille, and bumpers. Jeep made sure that it wears custom-made 18-inch wheels which look like the lace-style wheels originally offered on the Grand Cherokee gen one. But this one would not be complete without few Easter eggs scattered around it, and if you did not catch them from the video, there is the “Hammer Time” decal which becomes visible when the third brake light illuminates. Plus there’s a sticker on the back window that reads “OGZJ.”

But the exterior is not all that is great about the 2017 Jeep Grand One. The interior also got the same attention, and it looks, well, it looks perfectly stock like it just got off the assembly line. Surfaces were cleaned and restored, and they look brand new, but the attention to detail does not end there. The cabin wouldn’t be straight out of 90’s if it didn’t have a cassette tape in the old-school radio matched by an equally old-school, in-car telephone, but that is not all. Just for a bonus Jeep has thrown in an original Nintendo Gameboy which is placed on the back seat. Awesome right?!

Jeep Grand One Concept: The 1993 Grand Cherokee ZJ Gets another Day in the Sun

Twenty-five years after the original Jeep Grand Cherokee arrived on the scene, the ZJ-generation SUV is getting a new outlook on life. Behold the Jeep Grand One concept, part of Jeep’s 2017 Easter Jeep Safari haul that brings a bit of modern off-road equipment to the now-old-school sport-utility. We’re used to seeing retro Wrangler creations as part of this annual off-road bash, but it’s a fresh idea for Jeep to pay homage to the history of its more luxury-oriented off-roader.

Painted in a lovely light-blue hue, the exterior of the Grand One mostly stays faithful to the original boxy profile—no surprise considering the donor car is a 1993 Grand Cherokee that the Jeep team found on Craigslist. Key modifications include 18-inch gold wheels, fender flares, subtle woodgrain-look siding, and slightly restyled front and rear bumpers. Jeep also slightly stretched the wheelbase, lifted the car by two inches, fitted meaty 33-inch BFGoodrich tires, and installed locking front and rear differentials for maximum off-road prowess. A period-correct 5.2-liter V-8 and four-speed automatic transmission provide motivation, just as they did back in the day.

The interior is also true to the 1990s, with few changes to the rectilinear dashboard. Nostalgia-inducing touches such as a car phone and an old Nintendo Game Boy really drive home the point, and a plaid-pattern headliner provides a bit of whimsy. Even MC Hammer gets a shout out, thanks to the graphic over the CHMSL that reads “Hammer Time.” Those with a keen eye will also notice that this Grand Cherokee’s classic Jeep grille has eight slots, rather than the current seven-slot iteration.

Along with several other fanciful Jeep concept creations, the Grand One will hit the trail in a few weeks as part of Jeep’s Easter Safari event in Moab, Utah, to be held April 8–16.
