About The Hyundai Tucson
The Hyundai Tucson is the South Korean automaker’s compact crossover SUV.
It sits in the growing sector of the auto market and continues to push for more sales each year successfully.
Sales of the car began in 2004 for the 2005 model year and when it entered its second generation in 2009 it was marketed as the ix35 in Europe and Australia.
In the third generation, the company switched the branding back to “Tucson” for all markets from 2015 onwards.
It originally had a slow start in Europe but by 2016 it was selling almost twofold what it was selling in the USA.
Underneath the original car is the same platform that the Elantra and Kia Sportage are sat on with the choice of gasoline or diesel engines.
Over the years and generations since the Tucson has continued to share its chassis with the Kia Sportage and various Hyundai’s.
In 2020 it was moved over to the more generic Hyundai-Kia N3 platform that was developed by the two partnering automakers.
This new platform has a wider range of engines on offer including various hybrid setups and an 8-speed automatic transmission option.
The Hyundai Tucson is offered in either a short or long-wheelbase setup for the first time in this newer generation with 7-seats in the longer version (called the Tucson L).
Modern Tucson models have dual touchscreen infotainment systems built into the dashboard along with fully digital instrument clusters.

From most markets, the crossover went away in 2009 or 2010 with the introduction of the new Hyundai ix35, but for example, in China the car was sold for several more years. And in Brazil, the Tucson is still manufactured – with a two-liter engine, capable of running on gasoline or ethyl alcohol. In addition to Korea and Brazil, cars were also assembled in China, Taiwan and Ukraine.
2nd generation, 2009-2015
The second generation Hyundai Tucson was introduced in 2009. The former name was preserved only in the markets of Korea, the USA and some countries of South America, and for the rest of the world the model was sold as Hyundai ix35.
On the crossover was installed a two-liter petrol engine with a capacity of 164-166 liters. from. The Korean market also offered a version with an 184-horsepower diesel engine of the same volume, and in the US – with a 2.4 petrol engine, developing 170-182 liters. from.
Hyundai Tucson was offered with both front and all-wheel drive, the cars were equipped with a manual transmission or a six-speed automatic.
Also for the American market was prepared a small-scale version of the Tucson FCEV with an 80-kilowatt electric motor, the energy for which was produced in fuel cells working on hydrogen.
