What is a custom forged wheel?

Forged rims are made from solid aluminum billets. Aluminum billets are heated (but not melted) to allow craftsmen to forge them into shapes of wheels rims. Cast rims, on the other hand, are made from aluminum melted into a liquid form and then poured into molds for cooling. The stucture and strength of solid aluminum is by all means superior to that of liquid aluminum. Being produced with intense pressure, forged wheel rims are 3 times stronger than cast ones. In addition, forged rims are light (25~30% lighter than cast rims), impact-resistant and durable, which are musts for reducing the total weight of a car and lead to better performance & control.

BMW X5 Rolling On HRE Performance Wheels’ Custom Forged P101 Wheels!

Our client of which was from Bintulu, Sarawak, on the East side of Malaysia call us for a set of wheels for his BMW X5 of which he has yet to take delivery of. He was in tune for something completely different from the crowd that’ll set his car completely apart from other X5’s out there. From various brands under our profile with various designs and models in production, our client settled on a set of HRE Performance P101 Forged Wheels!

The Series P1 is HRE’s best-selling series of forged wheels for good reason. In designing the Series P1, they’ve set out to create the ultimate street-performance wheels by combining the purposeful lightweight design of our race wheels with an unmatched level of sophisticated design. Building on the successful 3-piece Series S1, we refined those designs into a lightweight Monoblok platform, resulting in an unparalleled blend of style and performance. He also requested the wheel to be finished in an optional Brushed Dark Clear finish which was an additional cost and to us, the finish is HRE’s most opulent brushed finish.

With him confirming his selection, we submitted our order to HRE and they immediately began the manufacture of the wheels, tailored exactly to the cars proportions. Total manufacture time took less than 4 weeks and was completed before his X5 was even delivered! When we took delivery of the wheels, we had them wrapped up with a set of Pirelli’s Scorpion Zero rubbers and balanced out all four wheels before shipping the wheels to our client via air cargo on the same day!

He fitted the 22 inch wheels on his X5 about a month later after his X5 was delivered and the results were absolutely amazing! The 22 inch wheel only weighed 11 kilograms which was an amazing weight figure given that other 22 inch wheels would typically weigh about 15 kilograms. Forged and Made in their San Diego, California facility, forged wheels don’t get any better than this!

We have just discovered a chic, tuned BMW X5 F15 xDrive50i on the EAS (European Auto Source) team. In addition to various other changes, the main focus of the tuner is certainly on the new built-in HRE P101 wheel set in 22 inches which is an absolute asset to the car compared to the series. Many more details were not actually posted, but pictures are known to say more than a thousand words. Nevertheless, we of course took a closer look at the car and made comparisons with the production version and discovered one or the other change. What we have learned directly from the tuner and have recognized ourselves, we provide you in a small summary below.
