The Grand Cherokee debuted in grand fashion at the 1992 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Michigan. The vehicle that was driven was a Poppy Red Clear Coat 1993 Grand Cherokee ZJ Laredo with a quartz cloth interior and high-back bucket seats. Then Chrysler president Robert Lutz drove Detroit mayor, Coleman Young, from the Jefferson North Assembly Plant on North Jefferson Avenue via a police escort to Cobo Hall, up the steps of Cobo Hall and through a plate glass window to show off the new vehicle. Sales of the 1993 model year Grand Cherokee began in April 1992. Production of the Grand Cherokee started shortly afterward in the purpose-built Jefferson North Assembly in Detroit, Michigan.
1999-2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee
These cars present the second generation of Grand Cherokee. A notable feature available in this generation was the automatic four-wheel drive option called Quadra-Drive. The interior was completely redesigned. The redesign allowed for larger rear doors, and more space for rear passengers.
The headlights also got changes. Now the cars were using two separate bulbs for High beam (9005 bulb size) and Low beam (9006). We have 35W and 55W HID headlight sets that are available in a variety of colors! Furthermore, we offer super bright LED lighting options of 9005 and 9006 sizes.
2005-2010 Jeep Grand Cherokee
Jeeps of these years are the third generation of this model. It was designed with Quadra-Drive II four-wheel drive, rear-seat DVD player and optional 5.7 L Hemi V8. The 3.7 L V6 engine replaced the 4.0 L Straight-6.
The headlight housing is using the same bulbs sizes: 9005 for High beams and 9006 for Low beams. However, the bulbs now have 90-degree band. From our experience, these Grand Cherokees Low beams upgrade with HIDs requires the installation of relay harness. This accessory helps to power the ballasts directly from the car battery and utilize the factory headlight wiring to switch the light on and off.
2011-2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee
The fourth-generation Grand Cherokee retains its classic Jeep styling combined with a modern and sleek body style. The interior features leather trim and real wood accents, plus Bluetooth and uConnect electronics options. Unlike previous generations, it features four-wheel independent suspension for better on-road handling.
The car lights got changes as well. Now the grand Cherokee has an H11 Low beam bulb or D1S headlights that perform for both beams. The H11 bulb is a single filament one and can be upgraded with one of our HID or LED kits. The installation is pretty simply and hard-wiring free. The High beams require the 9005 bulb size.
2014-2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee
The Grand Cherokees of 2014-2016 years are classy midsize SUVs for daily driving or SUVs with plenty of power and off-roading skills. There’s a range of potent engines to choose from, its ride is comfortable, and its four-wheel-drive capabilities are unmatched in the class.
The most noticeable headlight feature is striking LED daytime running lights and the projector headlight housing. The Low beams may take H11 bulb size for Low beams and 9005 for High beams or D3S HIDs for both beams if you own an Overland or Summit. The fog lights are of the H11 bulbs size.
2017-2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee
They are pretty good SUVs. It’s incredibly well-rounded, as it’s both more athletic and more upscale than many of its competitors.
The headlights have pretty much the same design as 2016 models, except that the High Beam bulb has been changed to an H9. New for these SUVs is that they may come with the D3S HIDs. The halogen projector headlights require the H11 lights instead. The fog lights also take the H11 bulbs.
We know how important the good visibility is. That is why upgrading the headlights may be crucial. When replacing the Jeep Grand Cherokee lights, you should remember that Low beam bulb may perform as the Daytime Running Lights – commonly referred to as DRL. Daytime running lights usually operate on reduced power, and HID ballasts require a stable 12V — which DRL cannot provide. As a result, if you install an HID conversion kit without taking this into consideration, you will end up with flickering Low Beam HID lights in your Grand Cherokee, which will burn out sooner rather than later. The remedy for this may be disabling of DRL in the car or installation of the relay wiring harness.
Assuming you’ve figured out a way to get an HID kit to work as your Daytime Running Lights, or you’ve simply deactivate your Daytime Running Lights altogether, another issue with installing an HID kit for this application is warmup period. HID lights take approximately 25 seconds to warm up when first turned on, so if you’re driving the Jeep Grand Cherokee and need a quick burst of light from your HID High Beams, you’re not going to be happy with the delay in getting light output! As a way out, we offer LED headlights for this vehicle. These lights are instantly on and do not require any additional time to light up fully.

Industry standard AMP inputs are compatible with 99% of HID ballasts out there. There is no higher aftermarket HID bulb supplier, CNLight is the premium bulb manufacturer and their quality is to show for it. H11 bulbs are used in reflector style headlamps whereas H11B are used in projector style housings. The difference is simply in the return wire position to prevent shadowing.
Options – A 35 watt HID system is what you will find standard on many high end vehicles like BMW, Audi, etc. For longevity and true kelvin ratings, we recommend sticking with a 35W system as they have the longest warranty and are have the longest rated lifespan. If you do a lot of night driving, the upgrade to a 50 watt system is an option, as a general guideline, the following applies for all 50 watt kits: 20% increase in light output, 20% decrease in lifespan (as they burn hotter than 35W) and -1000k in (K) kelvin (color). 2013-2016 model years have optional OEM headlamp caps (must select at checkout).
Running Lights – On the new Jeep Grand Cherokees, many come factory with low beam DRL or “daytime running lamps” that run your low beams at a lower voltage than the standard headlamps which generally run at 12 volts. HID systems require 12 volts to function so you will simply need to turn off the daytime running lamps which is done through the touch screen in the dash. This only applies to vehicles with low beam daytime running lamps.
