Ford Explorer 2023
The 2023 Explorer is an icon of Ford’s SUV lineup, carrying three rows worth of families since 1990. Ford introduced the current, sixth-generation Explorer for the 2023 model year, building on a rear-drive-based platform shared with the Lincoln Aviator. The Ford is positioned between the two-row Edge and the three-row Expedition in Ford’s SUV lineup, and competes with other three-rows including the Kia Telluride, Subaru Ascent, and Chevrolet Traverse. The 2023 model of the Ford Explorer hasn’t even been released yet, but what are rumored to be leaked photos of the 2023 Explorer have found their way online and have people talking. The newest generation of the Explorer has only just found its way back into the hearts of the public after the 2023 model brought back a fan favorite, the rear-wheel-drive platform. The SUV appears to have a slightly reshaped head and taillights, restyled vents that are on each side of the front bumper, a new wheel design, and, most eye-catching, a redesigned grille pattern. There is no confirmation that these changes will stay or that they will even appear on American models. As the photos supposedly came from China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the photos show the Chinese market model and the two countries’ versions of the Explorer look a bit different, despite sharing a platform. Also shared by the Chinese and American versions of the most recent Explorer is the 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine. This gives an output of 300 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque. Higher trims such as the ST and King Ranch are equipped with a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 engine that has 400 horsepower and 415 pound-feet of torque. There has been no word on whether or not the engine options will change for the 2023 model, but we don’t currently believe they will. According to fleet production data, Ford will start production on the 2023 Explorer in November, though orders can be taken as early as August. Reportedly, there is also an all-electric version of the Ford Explorer coming out, but we won’t see that until 2023. This makes it another highly anticipated electric release after the Mustang Mach-E, which is currently delayed in delivery, and the F-150 Lightning, rumored to start production in 2023. The 2023 Ford Explorer midsize SUV promises to be another superb entry in the Ford lineup of vehicles. It offers the space to haul as many as seven people and looks great doing it. How does the Explorer drive? The Explorer is the three-row SUV to get if your priorities include balanced handling and strong acceleration. Unlike a lot of other SUVs in this class, it feels eager and light as you drive around turns. There are a lot of grips too. The latest Explorer can handle lots of power, and Ford takes full advantage. The sturdy turbocharged four-cylinder base engine easily outpaces the competition. And there’s a bonkers turbo V6 in the Explorer ST for those who believe too much is never enough. Both are helped along by a 10-speed transmission. It kicks down faithfully when you need it to, but in city traffic, when you’re just lightly getting on and off the gas, its shifting is too indecisive. How comfortable is the Explorer? The Explorer’s front seats are nicely shaped and comfortable. But we don’t recommend the optional massaging ones — the mechanism behind the massaging can make the seats feel lumpy when it’s off. Seat comfort gets progressively less cushiony as you move back to the second and third rows. Our Explorer Limited test vehicle rode smoothly most of the time, but smaller road imperfections were a little more noticeable than in some other SUVs.
Operating the automatic climate control system can require more manual adjustments than expected; the air vents won’t pump out as much air as you want when you lower the temperature, for instance. Another drawback is that the Explorer isn’t as quiet as it should be. The sound of the engine isn’t well masked, and you can hear gusty wind noises at even moderate highway speeds . This article will lay out what we can expect from the new version of the Explorer. We will discuss the potential 2023 Ford Explorer redesign, the specs we’re likely to enjoy on this SUV, and the trims it may be available in. As of now, we know that the vehicle is slated to release in Fall 2023. We will update you about the new Explorer when we learn more. The third powertrain option for the 2023 Ford Explorer is a hybrid one. It pairs a 3.3-liter V6 engine with a battery-and-motor setup for a total of 318 horsepower. The rear-wheel-drive hybrid gets an EPA-estimated 27/29/28 MPG (city/highway/combined).2 You’ll be able to ferry the kids and their friends to practice without breaking the bank at the pump in a 2023 Ford Explorer hybrid SUV. As we mentioned above, the Ford Explorer midsize SUV got an overhaul for the 2023 model year. This makes it unlikely that the vehicle will be entirely redesigned for its upcoming Fall 2022 release. There are, however, reports that Ford is planning aesthetic changes and some upgrades. Features previously reserved for top-tier trims are likely to be available on mid-tier trims, and the lower-tier trims are also likely to see some new features added.
The Ford Explorer is one of the longest-running SUVs on the road. It debuted more than 30 years ago and kick-started an American love affair with sport-utility vehicles that persists to this day. Our editors have praised the current-generation Explorer for its powerful engines, generous cargo space, and standard safety features. However, its subpar interior materials don’t often match up to its price tag, which can get into luxury SUV territory on higher trim levels. While we find aspects of the Explorer appealing, the crop of midsize SUVs has grown significantly since the SUV debuted, and it is no longer the class leader it once was. The Kia Telluride and its corporate cousin, the Hyundai Palisade, have taken the top spots for our recommendations in recent years. Both are more comfortable and feel more premium inside than the Explorer. Similarly, the Honda Pilot and Volkswagen Atlas are worth considering as both offers a comfortable ride and plenty of utility. How does the Explorer drive?
