Description
This 1979 Ford Bronco Ranger XLT 4×4 has proper V8 power, plenty of useful features, and an overall cool/classic style that comes from fun details on this open-back SUV. So it’s all about being a vintage machine that can deliver both style and substance.
This is part of a desirable and short run of Broncos. The second generation upgraded the size to be an F-Series sibling, and it even got the special front end that was only offered for the two years of this Bronco’s generation. And the upper-level Ranger XLT gives you nice features like chrome bumpers and full-length trim. There’s a nice quality to the fundamentals like good panel alignment and a clean black rear hardtop that comes off with ease. We like the way the handy features look on this Bronco. The polished alloys look great, and they are part of the enhanced 4×4 stance. Plus, towing mirrors and a proper trailer hitch mean you can bring the fun with you. The white paint is a later application, and so it’s complete while still having a read-to-work attitude. What really sets it apart is the never application of blue stripes. It has that classic strobe/faded style that absolutely screams 1970s cool. And this resto-fun attitude even continues inside.
We like the addition of the exterior blue stripe because the full blue interior also has multi-tone blue inserts — including the rear seat. So it looks well-coordinated when the hardtop is off, and the cloth inserts are quite nice for sunny days when you are wearing shorts. The whole interior has a terrific vintage style, including the classic/premium wood-like trim. Even the updated AM/FM/cassette stereo doesn’t look out of place. But we also like this for being quite comfortable and useful. It’s in the details like the high-back front bucket seats with folding armrests, a tilt steering column, and a power rear window that lets you take down the tailgate and sit on it at ballgames.
Under the hood is a hardy 351 cubic-inch V8. It has a highly stock style with newer maintenance items, and so it continues to run with vigor. A proper two-speed transfer case and deep treads on the General Grabber tires make this a proper go-anywhere 4×4. But the true key to the Bronco’s staying power is also being an all-around nice cruiser. The three-speed automatic transmission, power steering, power brakes, and front discs are all part of that attitude.
Distinct, fun, useful, and always in-demand, this is a stylish and vintage second-gen Bronco that you need to get in your garage. Call today.

1979 FORD BRONCO RANGER XLT FROM PACIFIC NW. CLEAN SURVIVOR BRONCO!!
This 1979 Ford Bronco Ranger XLT is a very cool original Bronco that spent it’s life in the Pacific NW (Washington). This is a clean and solid Survivor truck that was repainted one time many years ago. It has never been modified or messed with and we were told by the last owner that he purchased from the original owner. This Bronco was kept indoors for most of its life and it shows. The last owner went through everything mechanical to make sure it would be a dependable daily driver for him. He recently replaced the carb, fuel pump, and fuel tank. It runs and drives excellent!!
The body on this Bronco is original and nice and clean. It was repainted quite awhile ago in the original color of Wimbledon White. The paint is still in really nice condition and still shines up nicely. All of the trim and bumpers are original and nice. The undercarriage is also really really clean. The interior is all original, with the exception of the custom center console. It has the deluxe high back bucket seats and the deluxe door panels which are all still in great condition. All of the lights, gauges, horn, heat, and wipers are working.
Mechanically this rig runs and drives great!! It has the 351M v8 engine that runs smooth and holds great oil pressure. This is still a very sstock original engine. The transmission is an Automatic C6 that shifts nice and it is mated to the np205 transfer case. It has a 9 Inch Rear End with 3.50 gears and a DANA 44 Front Axle with 3.50 gears. We did put brand new General Grabber A/T tires on it. This is just a nice example of an original survivor Bronco. At this price point it should not last long.
We drive what we sell so that we can give you a first hand and accurate report on how the vehicle runs and drives. Our pictures are never touched up or photoshopped. What you see is an accurate representation of the vehicle. We take consistent pictures and show you everything so you can get a true representation of the vehicle.
1979 Ford Bronco
GR Auto Gallery is pleased to present this 1979 Ford Bronco XLT Ranger 4×4 for purchase. In mid-1977 Ford introduced the first full-size Broncos for the 1978 model year. The long awaited ’78 Bronco was so popular that many people had to wait six months or longer to get one from their local Ford dealers. Consumers just couldn’t get enough of them. Even the automobile and truck magazines of the time raved on and on about the new full-size Broncos. The ’78 Bronco practically swept up every accolade with 4×4 and truck-of-the-year awards. One of the main reasons for the new Bronco’s instant celebrity status was the combination of functionality and ruggedness the vehicle offered. The F-Series 4x4s had a long standing reputation for being the best built full-size trucks on the market. With the introduction of the full-size Bronco, consumers could now have a vehicle with all the ruggedness of the F-Series trucks combined with luxury features such as A/C, cruise control, roll bars, AM/FM/CB stereos, delay wipers, bucket seats, center consoles, and even tilt steering — all in a short wheel base package that was easy to maneuver both on and off the road. Consumers could also choose exactly how they wanted their new Bronco equipped with two basic models being offered; the Custom, which was marketed towards the «outdoor enthusiast» and the Ranger XLT , which was marketed as more of family-oriented daily driver. Ford also offered a «Free-Wheelin» package on both the Custom & the Ranger XLT that featured tri-color striping, black bumpers, black low mount western-style mirrors, sport steering wheel, special glove box appliqué, and custom wheels. This particular bronco comes with full airbrush stripe, skid plates, ammeter and oil pressure gauges, California emission, reduced noise exhaust system, adjustable steering column, 10.00×15-C raised white letter tires, hood lock, free wheeling package and air conditioning. See the photo to see a picture of the MARTI Report. This truck is mainly stock except for a slight suspension lift, front grille, brake booster and dual exhaust
Delivered new at the Rett-White Motors dealer in Walnut Creek California, and now here at the Grand Rapids Auto Gallery, we are please to offer this for your consideration. Other mechanical highlights include a Dana 44 front axle, Sitting on a fully rebuilt chassis, there’s no doubt that this Bronco has all of the reinforcement necessary to tackle any obstacle in its path. The undercarriage is so clean that you can eat off it. We recommend that you don’t, but who are we to judge? Open the doors of this vintage Bronco to reveal an immaculate interior with original, Ranger-spec upholstery. That includes the Houndstooth bucket seats up front and matching bench seat spanning the rear. Wood trim surrounds the dashboard that houses a retro AM/FM stereo and factory air conditioning. For safety, the interior is equipped by a factory roll bar. Factory power steering makes maneuvering easy, and power disc brakes up front with drum brakes out back work in conjunction to bring this bad boy to a halt.
