Мировая премьера высокопроизводительного внедорожника с приставкой «SRT8» в названии (внутризаводская маркировка «WK2») состоялась в апреле 2011 года на международном Нью-Йоркском автосалоне, а вскоре после этого было запущено его серийное производство.

В январе 2013-го пятидверка подверглась первому обновлению – ей слегка подправили дизайн и архитектуру интерьера, добавили нового оборудования, заменили 5-ступенчатый «автомат» на 8-диапазонный, а также убрали «восьмерку» из обозначения.

Очередной рестайлинг случился с автомобилем в начале 2017 года, но на этот раз американцы ограничились лишь небольшими доработками внешности, салонного убранства и функционала.

Снаряженный вес автомобиля составляет 2191 кг, а его полная масса лишь чуть-чуть не доходит до 3 тонн.

Внутри «заряженную» сущность Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT выдают подрезанный по нижней хорде руль с рельефными приливами, металлические накладки на педалях, углепластик в отделке торпедо и спортивные передние кресла с развитой боковой и нижней поддержкой.

Главная «изюминка» Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT – восьмицилиндровый бензиновый «атмосферник» Hemi рабочим объемом 6.4 литра с V-образной компоновкой, распределенным впрыском горючего, механизмом регулировки фаз газораспределения, впускным трактом переменной длины, 16-клапанным ГРМ и технологией деактивации половины цилиндров при небольших нагрузках. Он генерирует 468 лошадиных сил при 6000 об/минуту и 642 Н·м крутящего момента при 4200 об/минуту.

Штатно внедорожник комплектуется 8-ступенчатым «автоматом» с подрулевыми «лепестками» смены передач и системой полного привода Quadra-Trac I (без понижающего ряда в раздаточной коробке) с активным распределением тяги по осям. В стандартных условиях весь запас мощности уходит на заднюю ось, но в случае необходимости до 50% тяги направляется на передние колеса.

Среднеразмерный SUV обладает впечатляющими «ездовыми» возможностями: с места до 100 км/ч он «выстреливает» за 5 секунд, а набор скорости продолжает до покорения отметки в 257 км/ч.

В комбинированном режиме «американец» потребляет как минимум 14.1 литров горючего на каждую «сотню».

С конструктивной точки зрения Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT мало чем отличается от «гражданского собрата» – платформа Mercedes-Benz M-класса (в кузове «W164») в основе, независимые двухрычажка спереди и многорычажка сзади, а также рулевой комплекс с гидравлическим усилителем и варьируемым передаточным числом.

The new generation of the legendary SUV is here but only in the ”L” form at the moment. It is a stretched version, which comes standard with three rows of seats. Standard two-row models are expected to arrive sometime in the third quarter of the year and we also count on hi-performance versions of the new SUV, including the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT. At this point, we are still waiting for the official confirmation but this version, just like the Trackhawk, seems like a certain thing.

Of course, this version will come with all kinds of upgrades, not just with a big and powerful V8 engine, but also with things like upgraded suspension, unique styling details etc. More details will come in the near future.

When it comes to the powertrain, we don’t expect significant changes compared to the outgoing model. Of course, this brings us to the well-known 6.4-liter V8, the same that powers the Challenger SRT, which currently puts out around 475 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque. A smaller boost in power is possible but we have no doubt that the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT will keep its naturally-aspirated character. It may not be as powerful as the Hellcat-powered version, but this naturally-aspirated engine has plenty of power and moves this SUV from zero to sixty in just 4.5 seconds. When it comes to base design characteristics, it is still unclear will the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT come only as a five-seater or it will be available in the L iteration too.
