This how-to video shows you how to change the parking light bulb in your 2001 BMW X5. The parking lights on a car are also known as position lights or clearance lights. The parking light symbol in the 2001 BMW X5 dashboard is represented by two small semi-circles facing opposite directions. The parking light is typically orange in color and the parking light bulb may be the same bulb as the turn signal bulb in some X5s. It is possible for the turn signal filament of the dual function parking light and turn signal bulb to burn out and for the parking light to continue to function properly. Replacing the parking light bulb will restore functionality of both your turn signal and parking light in your X5.
When changing the parking light in your X5, be careful not to touch the glass part of the new bulb with your finger as this will cause it to burn out quicker. We recommend using gloves or a piece of paper towel to limit the potential of touching the bulb.

How to change parking light of my BMW X5 ?
Regardless of it’s for your personal safety, for roadworthiness testing or to avoid a fine, being sure your headlamp bulbs are constantly operational is pretty important. In reality, bulbs are wearing parts that will inevitably burn out over time and consequently need to be swapped out. You’re most likely on this site because one of your position lamp is burnt out and you’re wondering how to change the bulb of my BMW X5 parking light, we’ve written this content page to help you do this process by yourself and not need to go to your repair shop. In a first step, we will look into replacing the front daytime running light bulb of your car and in a second section, how to swap the rear daytime running light.
How to swap the front parking light bulb of my BMW X5?
We will commence this content with exchanging the front daytime running light bulb of your BMW X5, remember that based on the year and finish of your car it may not be quite the same approach to use. In reality, whether or not the position of your bulb is not going to change, the access may be more or less problematic based on the features of your car.
- Going through the bonnet of your car: First methodology, you will simply go through the bonnet of your car to access your headlight unit. This is the most wise technique but it is not always easy to achieve, sometimes because of secondary auto parts that will block your access. To accomplish this, here are the guidelines to follow. First, with the engine off, disconnect the terminals of your battery to avoid any short circuit or risk of electrocution. Once this stage has been completed, you will need to access the back of your headlight unit to swap the daytime running light bulb on your BMW X5. You may possibly need to take out the battery for easier access. In this case, you will need to open the bulb protection cap on your headlight (¼ usually does the job), then you will need to take out the bulb socket from its position. To accomplish this, pull delicately on the socket and not on the wires (you risk damaging them), at last when the socket is out, you can swap your parking lamps bulb, being careful not to damage the wires and use a cloth to avoid dirtying your new bulb. Once completed, reassemble the set up, reconnect your battery and execute a check test before taking to the road.
- By getting rid of the crosshair grill and the headlight:
- Second alternative, you can remove the headlight of your BMW X5 in the event that the access through the engine block seems too obstructed. To do this, you just have to open your bonnet, take out the front grill held by only a few torx screws, then take out the headlight in question. Once these steps are finished you will only have to follow the same technique as on the previous section to swap the front daytime running light bulb of your BMW X5
How to swap the rear parking light bulb on your BMW X5
To finish , if you desire to change the rear parking light bulb of your BMW X5 the method is much easier, here are the different steps to follow to allow you to change this bulb:
- Disconnect your battery
- Get the floorboards out of the trunk.
- Unscrew the back cover of the headlight unit from your car.
- After finding the rear position lamps bulb on your car, remove the burnt-out bulb.
- Place your brand-new parking light bulb into the headlamp assembly on your car
- Reassemble the whole thing.
Examine that your parking lights are functioning properly again before you set off again and you’re done. If you want to change the fog light bulb on your BMW X5, please read our dedicated content page to find out how to do it.
