13 Best Adventure Vehicles and Off-Road SUVs of 2015
Wrapping up 2015 with the best off road SUV and adventure vehicles including concepts and special editions.
In our opinion, the best off road SUV is totally obnoxious, has horrible fuel economy, and rolls on wheels larger than your kitchen table. Why feel this way? Why not – it’s fun. And performance shops like Starwood Motors and Terradyne make this all possible, converting luxury utility vehicles into relatively shameless off-road warriors. And we’re ok with that. Even automakers like Hyundai and Toyota are getting into the mix, though to a lesser extent. Whether traversing mountains, exploring glaciers in a Superjeep or simply camping with the family , the popular sport-utility is taking on a new role, pushing the limits while redefining the term utility. And 2015 was a good year of stellar off-road adventurers.

GM’s Big-Daddy SUVs: 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban, and 2015 GMC Yukon and Yukon XL
General Motors was patiently waiting for the press days of the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show to drop the curtains on is redesign crop of big SUVs from the Chevrolet and GMC brands.
The full size SUVs are the 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe and its longer Suburban sibling, and the 2015 GMC Yukon, Yukon Denali and Yukon XL, all of which share common bodies, mechanical and platform components, between themselves and their pickup truck counterparts, the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra. And just to make it a bit more confusing, the next Cadillac Escalade will be another by-product of the series…
Using a traditional body-on-frame architecture that makes them tougher and more capable when it comes to tackling off-road trails and hauling trailers, GM’s new duo of full-size SUVs sport fresh styling inside and out, newer and more fuel efficient EcoTec3 engines and a greater range of technologies.
The GMC Yukon, especially in Denali trim, is hands down the better looking of the crop, thanks to its more modern and expressive front end, side and rear trims. While the bodies are identical, Chevrolet went for a more utilitarian look on the front with an odd choice of headlamps that immediately bring to mind the latest Ford Explorer…
Inside, the GMC shows that it will be the higher priced SUV of the group (sans the next Escalade, of course), with a different instrument panel and choice of materials, especially in the Denali edition, though, the rest of the interior is virtually identical including the center console with the available eight-inch color touch screen for the infotainment system.
Available new and enhanced features for the 2015 models include fold-flat second- and third-row seats, two inches more legroom for 2nd row passengers, keyless entry and push-button star, forward collision alert, front park assist, lane departure warning, lane change assist, rear cross traffic alert and adaptive cruise control.
There are two new EcoTec3 V8 powertrains available, a standard 5.3-liter unit delivering 355-horses and 383 lb-ft (519Nm) of peak torque, and a 6.2-liter V8 with 420-horsepower and 450 lb-ft (610Nm) that’s offered exclusively on the GMC Yukon Denali. Both are paired to a standard six-speed automatic.
Sales of all five models will begin in North America in the first quarter of 2014.

In fact, this 2015 model has revamped many of its features from the previous year. The 2015 Rogue has evolved into a more spacious and stylish vehicle than ever before. Additionally, it also keeps up with the other SUVS in its category, in terms of safety, overall performance and a comparable price of $24,248 – $32,048.
With a price range of $24,365 – $33,710 that follows suit with the first two SUV models on this list, Toyota’s smallest SUV the RAV4 also continues to be a very popular vehicle among many Canadian drivers. Similar in size to these other models, the RAV4 is steadfast in its performance, safety – with technology upgrades making it an all-around versatile vehicle choice. To emphasize its popularity even further – the RAV4 is in such high demand that it led the way in terms of January sales – a month that typically sees sluggish new models sales.
While the CR-V may not be the peppiest of vehicles when paired against other SUV models in its category, it does however offer many benefits that have kept it in contention in past years and presently in 2015. With regards to this model, Honda has focused its efforts even further towards cabin and storage space – features that actually rival larger SUVs in an upper price range. Speaking of price, the CR-V is valued between $25,990 – $36,540, and perhaps where it truly stands out is its fuel efficiency capabilities. While it is true that this model has fallen down a bit in the rankings this year versus the previous year’s model, in terms of Honda’s vehicle line up – the CR-V is still responsible for 30% of the company sales for 2015, thus keeping it right in the mix when it comes to SUV popularity.
