2022 Jeep Renegade The small SUV market is growing. With that said, we’re talking really small – under the subcompact to be specific. Jeep holds a special position in the hierarchy, as its history in this segment stretches back decades, long before the term sports vehicle was used. A new Jeep is likely to come in 2022 that will fill those ultra-small boots, and here’s our exclusive look at how it looks.

You might be surprised to see how little it bears resemblance to Jeep’s current little offering, the Renegade. In this case, design inspiration also came from the Jeep Yuntu concept vehicle which was revealed at Auto Shanghai in 2017.

That’s also important, as rumors suggest the new Jeep sub-compact could offer some form of electrification. The plug-in hybrid powertrain can be a mix, as well as a full EV variant. The Yuntu is presented as a plug-in hybrid model, so there’s bound to be some symmetry in reconstructing the SUV – designed as a large three-row vehicle – into a very efficient small offering.

The Jeep’s short-term electrification strategy was fueled by the recent launch of the Renegade and Kompas plug-in hybrids, both featuring a turbocharged 1.3-liter four-cylinder petrol engine, a compact lithium-ion battery pack, and a rear axle-mounted electric motor. The system produces 187bhp and 237Nm of torque and will give both models a claimed maximum all-electric range of around 31 miles.

With the FWD, you can get 24/32 mpg. Still, premium fuel is recommended. A nine-speed gearbox can send power to all four corners. A start/stop system is included. Some drivers find it irritating, so it can be switched off.

In other markets, you can also find configurations centered around other units. The smallest one is a 1.0-liter I-3 turbo mill. A 1.3-liter engine can also come in a pair with electric motors. This one you will find as the 2022 Jeep Renegade 4xe. Experts believe the crossover is going to debut in the US as well. A 1.6 E-Torq model can use both gasoline and ethanol in some countries. Diesel offer also has two engines – 1.6 and 2.0 displacements, both based on the Multijet configurations.

2022 Jeep Renegade Redesign and New Colors

We can say the main reason why Renegade is going to cost over $23,000 is a powerful engine. Limited and Trailhawk versions will be over $30,000. All-wheel drive is included for both trims.
