2020 Jeep Renegade
The 2020 Jeep Renegade, still in its first generation, offers entry-level Jeep buyers two engine choices: a 1.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder (standard on the Limited and Trailhawk trims) that delivers 177 horsepower and 210 pound-feet of torque, and a less robust 2.4-liter that’s standard on the Sport, Upland and Latitude. Both engines are paired with a nine-speed automatic. There are seven trims with varying styling, creature comforts and technology. A front-wheel drivetrain is standard, but an upgrade to the four-wheel-drive system gives buyers access to more off-roading options, including hill start assist and a terrain selector with five drive modes. The Trailhawk and Upland trims are offered only in 4×4. Depending on its configuration, the Renegade achieves up to 24 mpg in city driving and up to 32 mpg on the highway.
Trim Specifications
The Sport offers a 5-inch touchscreen with Uconnect3, steering wheel mounted controls, a customizable digital cluster display and available removable sunroof. The Upland gets remote start and keyless entry, 17-inch low-gloss black wheels, exclusive front fascia styling and removable sunroof. Upgrading to a 7-ich touchscreen with Uconnect4 and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility costs $775 for Sport and Upland. The Latitude adds 17-inch aluminum wheels, a standard 7-inch touchscreen and a panoramic sunroof. The Altitude has 18-inch gloss black wheels as well as high gloss exterior detailing and interior finishes. The Limited introduces the 1.3-liter engine with stop/start technology, heated leather-trimmed seats and a panoramic sunroof. The most capable Trailhawk trim has 17-inch aluminum wheels with off-road tires, the Selec-Terrain traction management system and a skid plates over the transfer case, transmission, front suspension and fuel tank. It also gets hill descent control. Upgrading to an 8.4-inch touchscreen with navigation costs between $1,295 and $1,345 on the Latitude, Altitude Limited and Trailhawk trims. The fancy High Altitude boasts 19-inch gloss granite crystal wheels, an 8.4-inch touchscreen with navigation, premium lighting and satin gloss granite crystal accents.
Upgrading from front-wheel-drive to 4×4 costs $1,500. The Advanced Tech Group, which includes active safety technology like adaptive cruise control, automatic high-beams and lane departure warning is available on all trims except Trailhawk for $1,295. The Safety and Security Group with blind spot monitoring is available across the lineup for $645. Standard towing capacity on 4×4 versions is 2,000 pounds.

2020 Jeep Renegade
Some ratings use a scale of Poor to Good. Others range from Basic to Superior.
Small overlap front: driver-side
Rating applies to 2020-23 models built after September 2019
Tested vehicle: 2020 Jeep Renegade Latitude 4-door 4wd
The Jeep Renegade was introduced in the 2015 model year. Beginning with the 2019 model year, the front-end structure, front door hinge pillars, and front door sills were reinforced to improve occupant protection in small overlap and moderate overlap frontal crashes.
Beginning with 2020 models built after September 2019, an additional modification was made to the front-end structure to further improve occupant protection in driver-side small overlap crashes.
Action shot taken during the driver-side small overlap frontal crash test.
The dummy’s position in relation to the door frame, steering wheel, and instrument panel after the crash test indicates that the driver’s survival space was maintained very well.
The frontal and side curtain airbags worked well together to keep the head from coming close to any stiff structure or outside objects that could cause injury.
The driver’s space was maintained well, and risk of injuries to the dummy’s legs and feet was low.
