2022 Land Rover Pickup, Defender-Based Truck

It is not official, but bosses hinted the British company is working on the pickup truck. The new Defender is an excellent base for this model and the high demand could make the JLR speed up the development. The 2022 Land Rover Pickup is a promising project. First of all, we know the capabilities of the Defender, one of the toughest SUVs in the world. Towing capacity, power, and luxury, all in one. That is how most people see the upcoming truck.

Even before the new Defender was launched, fans created illustrations of their ideas and a couple of them are quite interesting. Now, when the SUV is out, it is easier to predict what could happen. Well, the Defender is using the unibody architecture. If bosses want to see the 2022 Land Rover Pickup competitive, the body-on-frame platform is required. Only Honda builds Ridgeline with the unibody chassis and when you look at the sales charts, it is obvious why this is not a good idea. Well, Brits are famous for their bragging, and you could read the statement that Defender is the most capable SUV in the world. Well, fans of Japanese, US, and German carmakers will disagree. The truck will face tough competition and JLR’s luxury equipment is making no difference in this world. Capability and value are important. So, Jaguar-Land Rover needs to create an affordable unit compared to the existing offer. US truckers will pay for the ride, but not for the premium accessories, but the features that make towing easier.

Performance

Achieving good outputs and high towing capacity should not be a problem for the 2022 Land Rover Pickup. The company can provide a variety of units, including four-, six-, or eight-cylinder mills, petrol and diesel plants, with or without the help of electric batteries. A V6 is the most likely drivetrain to start with. Turbocharged, this one can deliver between 350 and 400 horsepower. A V8 is a high-end option with a lot of ponies. Eight cylinders can crack more than 500 hp. A four-pot is not so likely to be there unless you want it with electric batteries. The PHEV is pretty capable, delivering 400 horsepower and 470 lb-ft, saving a lot of fuel. Speaking of towing capacity, expect the truck at 7,000 pounds. A V8 can do more, but it still seems to be too big for the Land Rover truck.

2022 Land Rover Pickup Release Date and Price

Since the rumors are louder, the release date of the 2022 Land Rover Pickup is probably closer. Well, experts believe the company would already make it official if the model is about to enter production in foreseeable future. Most truckers expect the 2022 YM as the concept and a teaser, which will show bosses what the market feels about the idea.

Будущий Land Rover Defender станет утилитарным пикапом

Серийный Defender нового поколения будет рассекречен в этом году. Причем не исключено, что машину покажут уже 30 апреля, ведь именно в этот день 70 лет назад состоялась премьера самого первого внедорожника Land Rover. Новый вездеход сохранит стиль и характер классического Дефендера, но будет иметь много общего с серийным Discovery пятого поколения и окажется богаче и дороже легендарного предшественника. Однако в семействе будут и утилитарные модификации. Например, помимо пассажирских версий, к 2020 году ожидается целый набор пикапов.

Как сообщает британское издание Autocar, в богатых версиях такой Defender сможет составить конкуренцию Мерседесу X-класса. А вот для развивающихся рынков вроде Африки и Южной Америки, где любят и помнят оригинальный Land Rover, компания предложит простые модификации с минимальным набором оборудования и простой техникой.

По предварительной информации, такие машины будут иметь короткую двухместную кабину и большую грузовую платформу. Никаких гибридов и электроприводов: под капотом окажутся обычные дизельные двигатели нынешнего семейства Ingenium, хотя для стран с плохим топливом они все же чересчур сложные и требовательные.

Основным для Дефендера должен стать строящийся завод Jaguar Land Rover в Словакии, который заработает уже в конце этого года. Land Rover Strongly Suggests Defender Pickup Is Planned

The company seemingly changed its mind about building a Defender truck.

The pickup version of the modern Land Rover Defender looks a little bit more likely to happen, despite the company downplaying the possibility for years. Nick Collins, Jaguar Land Rover’s executive director of vehicle programs, says «there is customer demand» for the truck, and «there were no structural limitations» for building it, according to Autocar.

«We always said the Defender would be a family,» Collins told Autocar, and he suggested to «watch this space» about the truck’s future.

While there were rumors about the pickup variant before the new Defender’s launch, the company eventually dropped the plans. An unnamed source previously made the argument: «Why would you buy a dual-cab ute when you see what you can put in the back of one of these – this is already a ute with a roof.»

Land Rover was clear that there wasn’t a structural issue with using the Defender’s D7x platform to make a truck. The company just didn’t see enough of a business case for creating the pickup.

What It’s Like To Drive The Modern Land Rover Defender:

Traditionally, pickups ride on a body-on-frame chassis, but the Defender has unibody underpinnings. The Honda Ridgeline shows that this layout can still produce a capable truck, though. The upcoming Ford Maverick and Hyundai Santa Cruzpoint to automakers being increasingly willing to make monocoque pickups, too.

A Defender pickup should be able to adopt any powertrain from the crossover variant, and the model offers lots of choices. Depending on the market, buyers can get a plug-in hybrid, mild-hybrid 3.0-liter inline-six, 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder, or inline-six diesel. Plus, Land Rover has a V8 option under development for folks looking to maximize the vehicle’s performance.

2022 Land Rover Defender

The 2022 Land Rover Defender might look reminiscent of the 1950s original, but in reality it is a completely modern, high-tech off-roader with unique curb appeal. A trio of engines is offered—a turbocharged four-cylinder, a turbo-and-supercharged six-cylinder, and a supercharged V-8—and all come standard with four-wheel drive. The Defender can be had in two-door 90 and four-door 110 body styles, and advanced-duty off-roading equipment is available on all models, including an adjustable air suspension and locking differentials. There aren’t many SUVs that are as capable as the Defender, and they mostly come from Land Rover’s lineup. Some may consider the Jeep Wrangler a cheaper alternative, but the Defender has it beat when it comes to on-road refinement and available luxury appointments.

What’s New for 2022?

Land Rover is introducing a V-8 engine into the Defender lineup for 2022: the 518-hp Supercharged 5.0-liter V-8 that’s found in the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport models. The V-8 will be available on both the two-door 90 and four-door 110 models; a high-end Carpathian Edition model will also sport the V-8 engine. The package enhances the Defender with Carpathian Gray exterior paint with a black-painted roof and tailgate, black-painted tow hooks, Xenon Blue brake calipers, and special Carpathian Edition badging. A new XS trim is available on 110 models and bundles a host of luxury and convenience features together including heated-and-cooled front seats, leather-and-cloth upholstery, three-zone automatic climate control, an adjustable air suspension, and adaptive cruise control. Land Rover is also introducing a new, optional 11.4-inch infotainment display this year and will offer even more accessory exterior packages for customization. An even larger, three-row Defender 130 model is on the horizon, but we aren’t sure when that SUV may debut. The Trophy Edition model also joins the lineup this year, but only 220 examples will be available and they all come with a complimentary entry to a Land Rover off-road competition in North Carolina that will take place in fall 2021.

Land Rover Defender V8 Bond 2022 получил рублевый ценник (в Россию привезут 20 внедорожников)

Британская компания Jaguar Land Rover представила специальную версию внедорожника Defender V8 под названием «Bond Edition». Не трудно догадаться, что новинка приурочена к выходу в мировой прокат очередного двадцать пятого по счету фильма про секретного британского агента Джеймса Бонда. Такой автомобиль разойдется по всему миру тиражом 300 экземпляров. Квота для России составила 20 машин.

Land Rover Defender V8 Bond Edition 2022 оснащен 5,0-литровым бензиновым двигателем с наддувом, отдача которого составляет 525 л.с. и 625 Нм, а работает он в паре с восьмиступенчатой автоматической коробкой передач, которая позволяет набрать первую сотню за 5,2–5,4 сек и достичь максимальной скорости в 240 км/час. Привод полный с электронноуправляемым активным задним дифференциалом.

Над созданием данной модификации работали специалисты из подразделения SV Bespoke, которые занимаются постройкой машин по спецзаказам. Основой для машины легендарного шпиона послужил Defender V8.

Внешне такой внедорожник выделяется полностью черным кузовом, который поставлен на темные 22-дюймовые колесные диски «Luna Gloss Black». Спереди тормозные суппорты получили синий цвет «Xenon Blue». Плюс к этому автомобиль щеголяет особыми шильдиками «007», еще данный логотип можно увидеть при включении подсветки околодверного пространства и на заставке мультимедийной системы Pivi Pro. Внутри можно найти накладки на пороги со светящейся надписью Defender 007, надписи One of 300 и логотип SV Bespoke, выполненные при помощи лазерной гравировки.

В России уже открыт прием заказов на спецверсию, которая будет доступна, как в коротком, так и в длинном кузове.

Автомобиль вместе с «черным» стайлинг-пакетом Defender V8 Bond получил штатную информационно-развлекательную систему Pivi Pro, которая начинает работу с демонстрации видео-ролика, рассказывающего о сотрудничестве Ленд Ровера и франшизы о Бонде.

Цены трехдверной версии Defender 90 начинаются с 10 794 000 рублей, а пятидверной Defender 110 с 10 969 000 рублей.
