Small overlap front: driver-side

Rating applies to 2016-22 models

Tested vehicle: 2016 Honda Pilot EX 4-door 4wd

The Honda Pilot was redesigned for the 2016 model year, and the Honda Passport was introduced in the 2019 model year. The Passport is derived from the Pilot, but it has a slightly shorter overall length and only two rows of seats instead of three. Ratings apply to both the Pilot and Passport.

Action shot taken during the driver-side small overlap frontal crash test.

The dummy’s position in relation to the door frame, steering wheel, and instrument panel after the crash test indicates that the driver’s survival space was maintained well.

The frontal and side curtain airbags worked well together to keep the head from coming close to any stiff structure or outside objects that could cause injury.

The driver’s space was maintained well, and risk of injuries to the dummy’s legs and feet was low.

Small overlap front: driver-side

Rating applies to 2009-15 models

Tested vehicle: 2014 Honda Pilot EX 4-door 4wd

The Honda Pilot was redesigned for the 2009 model year.

Action shot taken during the small overlap frontal crash test.

The dummy’s position in relation to the door frame, steering wheel, and instrument panel after the crash test indicates that the driver’s survival space was not maintained well.

During the crash, the dummy’s head and torso barely contacted the airbag before sliding off to the left as the steering column moved to the right. The side curtain airbag did not extend quite far enough forward toward the A-pillar.

Intrusion of the parking brake pedal (not visible in photo), door hinge pillar, and instrument panel was extensive and contributed to a high risk of injury to the left hip, a significant risk to the left knee and right lower leg, and a possible risk of injury to the left lower leg.
